I love your attention to detail, it's starting to look really good!

I think most models are allowed to have a certain amount of artistic license, as most vehicles in the war were built slightly different or modified in different ways by the crew.

Thanks Mr Risky, as long as a model is "probably-right" in the most part, then its good enough really.

With a very quiet weekend being the one after the xmas madness, I have got a bit done.
All the welds are on and look ok. That Tamy putty is very user friendly I can give you the drum.
Ready for primer, and thats alluring

A dash of Mr Surfacer 1200 out of the spray can & its looking uniform and right.
Lucky for me its a million degrees c outside, so it doesn't take long to dry
Preshading with Nato Black in the usual spots & off to the 4BO spray booth

I can only imagine that the poop-emoji's would've been hosing out of the German tankers when they whizzed the turret of their Pz III around on a target call from their T.C. to see this gargantuan in the gunsight
And then to have the call that the shot(s) hit but might have as well missed for all the good it did them

Got my 4BO action on
This shade threw me a bit as I tried out a vallejo 4BO version for the first time.
Was a lot darker than I'm used to.
But thats ok, "paint-happens"!
I found it quite chalky for want of a better description, which made it easy to hold the highlight coat into place where I aimed it.

Taking the plausible approach to the subject, this machine was not much longer than 18 or so months in service at the most, which still makes it a veteran of the attrition , and also the lone survivor of its breed.Paint would have still faded, repairs would have been made, crews came and went, trains, bad roads,changing seasons, Diesel and ammo before bread................all of it.
And here it stands defending an iconic city that carries the name of one of the new(at the time) nations founders in a time of dire crisis in 1943 giving hope to those that gathered around it for the picture.
Mudguards are ripped off, extra armour bunged on at a local works to protect the turret ring, crisp whitewash applied, and loaded with ammo ready to face the foe.
I just want to recreate the feeling that the picture implies

There is a lot of variation in 4BO so I've just stopped worrying about the color differences in my Russian tanks. Always satisfying laying down the first color passes though. I really makes the mods look like they belong there.

yip, me too. The Vallejo 4BO shade was just very different and it threw me out a bit .
Once I banged the lightening shades on though, its come good.
Couldnt resist fitting the tracks after I painted them, just to get it looking respectful !
I'm waiting on some of the washable acrylic paint to arrive so the final touches are a way off yet.

While it ain't easy bein' green, it sure does look good!

Seeing it all in one colour makes the extra surface detail with the welds and appliqué armour really pop. I'm keen to see how you tackle the whitewash camo, it'll make "Stalin's refrigerator" temperature-appropriate! You're going to need a few comrades rugged up in their winter woolies too, I'd say.
