Awesome. I laugh at the turning radius of halftracks.

Whoa! Please note that the excellent FAMO with the working winch and three-color camouflage is the work and possession of jhamm. He put up the pictures to encourage me, and he has been a help all along. I will post more photos as I make progress, and I am s-l-o-w because I am inexperienced with the electronics and I work on other models at the same time.

At this point, I have the steering, motors, sound, light, and smoker working, and I have made my own speaker box which I am painting to look like a big crate to load in the bed of the FAMO. From there, I should be set to prime all the metal parts.

But now that I see how jhamm has made the winch work, I feel challenged to see if I can make mine work, too.

I have had days of fun with Volatile Organic Compounds (infamous VOCs) spraying RustOleum red oxide metal primer on the Asiatam FAMO parts and sub-assemblies. I have a few repairs to make to parts that came broken or missing, and then I will be working on finish paint, further assembly, more finish paint and touch-ups, and maybe a few Rad stencils for the minimal markings. I had originally thought I would paint the FAMO in Dunkelgrau. However, I have discovered the Vallejo 200 ml. bottles of acrylic primers, and they are as good for airbrushing as any paint I have used. I am now considering Dunkelgelb which would also open up possibilties for camouflage schemes I have seen in photos of the FAMO.

I wonder if FAMOs (and other German WWII materiel) that were originally Dunkelgrau, but later repainted Dunkelgelb per orders, were in fact not completely repainted. That is, might the Dunkelgelb have been painted on visible surfaces (wheels, sides, etc.), but more hidden surfaces (e.g. the frame, undersides) have been left in Dunkelgrau or even red oxide?

Any responses...? any known evidence?

Highly possible as throughout use if the vehicle survived it may be used in different scenarios or environment. the paint would have rough and ready in the field most likely
after seeing vehicles painted on the production lines of many sites, the existence of red oxide still being visible is highly possible

After considering a Dunkelgelb FAMO, likely with three-colour camouflage, I realized that I have few AFVs in Dunkelgrau and that should I later want to change the FAMO to a camouflage, I could do so just as had been done to real FAMOs in the field, even as sloppy as brown paint applied on Dunkelgrau with a mop or broom (I have photos). So for now at the least, my FAMO will be Dunkelgrau, and I like the decision. Here's the paint job, Vallejo Primer (primer? seems like a finish coat to me) over RustOleum red primer.
With the electronics worked out and tested, tested, tested, my next step is the mechanicals. slow and stead--unh, wobbly.
