A great result General, the SU-100's looking terrific. The 85's a long, low beast but the 100 takes that to a whole new level.

I think the general lack of Soviet vehicles and parts is a real shame, though I'll admit the situation's not as dire as it is for fans of British stuff. People buy Tigers and Panthers so you can get every conceivable version of them, no matter how rare or useless they were in real life (18 Sturmtigers, 80-ish Jagdtigers and no Panther Fs produced compared to 5000 Crusaders, 4000 Cromwells and 35000 T-34/76s ). Hopefully the explosion in cheap 3D printers will help fill these niches.

Given the hull dimensions of the 85 and 100 are the same, that extra long low look must be down to the crazy long barrel! It must have proved a real inconvenience to the driver and possibly explains why it's usually full elevated when in transit.

I can now see why you've used tiny metal hinges on the hatches. The Trumpeter plastic ones are well formed and are fine for a static display model but if used regularly, as in RC battles where crew are in and out, IR receivers are fitted and then removed, the plastic tubes soon fail. I've ordered a pack of tiny brass and steel ones which I'll glue in place after modding to look right.

I've built the incredible all aluminium V12 38ltr V2 engine which I'll fit in the rear of an open flat bed truck for field maintenance. As for the rest of the hull and all its fittings, dozens of shells etc, l look forward to finding a use.

Hope you don't feel l'm hijacking your SU-85 thread but it feels like a good place for a SU club chat! By the way Mr Tankme, how about a pic of your SU122? Impressive!

The SU-122 is taking a long time to sort out. The Vandra kit is not the greatest. I haven't gotten the casemate mounted to the upper hull yet. I've found it doesn't fit the Taigen lower very well, the resin details don't fit very well, the barrel mount doesn't fit very well...and on and on. I've gotten frustrated with the kit so I'm tackling some smaller tasks on other tanks at the moment.

Amazing job on that engine by the way.
I had though of assembling a transmission unit for a T34 to strap to the engine deck of a build(have seen a period picture of it) but so far only thought !(they say its the thought that counts eh!)

Sounds like a real PITA but sure to be worth it once you're done.

Spent a bit of time over the last two days drawing these up. They're designed to fit the standard metal HL swing arms with bearings (I happened to find a set in the cupboard this week).
The bearings will go into the inner roadwheel (last two pics), so it'll be supporting most of the weight. The outer wheel will mostly be for show, same as the stock HL set up. I've got some plans for the tyres, but if it doesn't pan out I've made the rims the same dimensions as the HL metal ones, so their tyres will be a direct fit.

I'll spend some time setting things up and experimenting during the week. Keep your fingers crossed for me, gents!

All crossed here too (just polished off a bottle of vino so most of me is crossed anyway). Is the HL metal suspension arm the same as the Taigen one, that is, simply a 3mm hole with a stub axle retaining grub screw?

A single bearing on the inner wheel should do providing the wheel is kept square and vertical. If the tyre availability is an issue, a printed wheel/tyre rather like the HL plastic example would do a fair job. I have to press a finger nail into the tyre to tell anyway. Either way, that's great news for all of us - thanks!

I have one of these ani bri su85 and su100 though I spent a lot of time on them I found them good builds, I also have a vandra su76 in progress or at least I think it is, I got it from Dave so not sure but on the whole it’s gone together quite well, I am struggling getting hold of the panzer 3 accessories though
