Fury platoon
Re: Fury platoon
Well, it's obviously an M4, most likely built in 43, but by whom? I think it was probably ALCO, but it's in the "missing" chunk of registration numbers, so there's no way of knowing. So I'm going to go for a mid-late 43 ALCO M4.
Re: Fury platoon
Well if we assume that SoS's numbers are indeed a typo (which seems logical at this point), and go with the Minutia site's T-3157 batch starting at 3065984, then 3066197 would be the 213th tank of that series. According to SoS's batch details, the 213th tank of that order was built in April '43 as part of a total of 234 M4's built by ALCO that month according to the table in appendix B.
The 'missing numbers' on that bookmark I refered to are just poor editing, not missing sherman tanks from a huge batch of M4A1's - looking at Fisher's M4A2 numbers, they are also in the 3062***, 3063*** and 3064*** range. It does seem bizare that there is a massive jump in serial numbers in that one M4A1 Lima Loco Works batch, but the table in appendix B quite clearly shows that jump, while the summary table on the bookmark (and the one a few pages later in the book itself) are just plain misleading.
