M41 Gorilla
Re: M41 Gorilla
Thanks. I've only really seen medical grade or the old resin bath output: the former is smooth, the latter wouldn't cover over with primer!

Very interesting build Rob, I've just caught up and I've enjoyed seeing the way you've approached such a novel piece of armour. Some excellent problem-solving design work on your part, and I think the end result will speak for itself.

Re: M41 Gorilla
Been doing lots of microscopic parts, and had to reprint the side boxes as being a complete idiot I had superglued them on the wrong sides and therefore they were back to front....
Still bits to glue on, awaiting some more scalpel blades so that I trim them properly first. Have been looking at the gun and the base...jeez, that is complex...

Re: M41 Gorilla
Only held on with cocktail sticks for now, but the rear door and hinges are done.

Re: M41 Gorilla
Well no one noticed my deliberate error, cough, cough, on the rear door, so I had to redesign and reprint it. I also did the metal frame that attaches to the exterior. The rear recoil blade is 99% done, just needs a set of teeth, sanding down and gluing together.

Re: M41 Gorilla
Fitted the hinges properly, added the blade teeth, and had to take up the non-scale space in the width, so added a couple of storage boxes. Also fitted a smooth floor.
Currently started on the gun base, and that has been a 'lot' of work...

Re: M41 Gorilla
Looks fabulous Mr Wibbly. Is the rear blade cable operated like a bergejagdpanther or something like that? This is such an exciting build

Tanks alot....

Re: M41 Gorilla
It's going to be pretty well impossible to make it function like the real one, which is, as far as I can make out from photo's, is operated using two cables and a winch. I need to make two hooks that secure the blade arms to the back of the hull, but they are so small that printing them has proved an abysmal failure so far...but I shall persevere.

Re: M41 Gorilla
Printed the gun mount base, which turned out ok, It's in two parts, lower and upper, the upper allows for traverse.
Turned to the gun, which is a complex beastie covered in reciprocator, anti-recoil and all sorts of other tubes and paraphernalia. It's not complete yet, but I do know two things. One, at 250mm it won't fit onto either of my printers, and two, Shapeways will charge me $40 to print it in PLA.
If I print it in two sections, the lower will take around 12 hours to print...and no guarantee that it will come out well, printing something like that is about as 3D printer unfriendly as it gets. I may have to break it all down into kit style parts and then assemble it afterwards.
