Heng Long all metal Tiger 1 in 1/8 scale..
Re: Heng Long all metal Tiger 1 in 1/8 scale..
Hmmm, where to start? OK, Mick, the recoil turret should work fine with a Heng Long, as long as it has the micro switch at the back of the airsoft unit (Heng Long has had that since they came out with the RX18 but I'm not sure about boards previous to the RX18, like the RX13). You'll have to swap out the on/off switch, but Imex provides a replacement (there's an extra power plug for the servo recoil board. Other than that it should be plug and play. Once you change the switch you just put the turret on the tank and plug into the RX-18. The only extra wires are power for the servo board, which you get from the new on/off switch. Then there's just the standard two jst plugs, a three pin that goes to the daughter board and the two pin that plugs into the MFU from the trigger switch.
The recoil turret comes in both metal and plastic, but I bought the plastic because I don't really like the metal turrets. All that weight stresses out the plastic upper hull and once it's painted you can't really tell the difference anyway. The tank in my video started out all plastic but I converted the entire lower to all metal (by the way, someone said something about the full metal taigen, know that the upper hull is still plastic and comes with molded tools on all Taigen Tigers).
I can't say about stock in the UK but the container ship is on it's way across the big water to Imex and should have new airsoft recoil tanks and turrets. If you're in the US you may be able to call Erik and get just the servo recoil stuff to put in the turret you have now. I've done that with another tank and it's not a difficult mod.
I've been told Taigen has no plans to add airsoft recoil to any other tank than the Tiger. Yeah, I ain't happy about that either, but I think if I ever get the time I could copy what they've done in the Tiger in just about any other tank, maybe using a combo of airsoft and IR barrel parts. It might be difficult in a smaller turret, like a P3 or P4, but I think I could do it if I wanted to. Maybe after the Hetzer I may be able to add that to the to-do list.
Hope that helps.

Updating an older turret is really pretty simple, you're basically just swapping out the barrel and mantlet, adding the on/off switch and stuffing the servo board into the turret. If you do that to a KT, Mick, I hope you'll take tons and tons of photos for those of us that just love to flagrantly and shamelessly copy the hard work of the more talented.

Hi Guys, very interesting reading, but the thread seems to be drifting off topic a bit. Can I remind everyone that this is about the 1/8 all metal Tiger?

Not a problem - it was just a gentle reminder. It was interesting though. If you wish to pursue the divergent thread, you could always open up a new one. I would not like people to think I am stifling discussion.Son of a gun-ner wrote:Well, it's not true scale then, at 8th, it should be 105.5 kg, same goes for the 6th scale version, should be 216 kg going on 54 metric tons for the full size one in Bovington![]()

I suspect a fully loaded Tiger with fuel, an engine, oil, ammunition, people and being actually made out of steel, might make a difference!

Re: Heng Long all metal Tiger 1 in 1/8 scale..
Apologies, got a bit carried away. I'll start a separate thread about the taigen when I get back. This 1/8th would certainly be fun, could squash my 1/16's with it lol hefty price tag though!
Re: Heng Long all metal Tiger 1 in 1/8 scale..
I suspect that a late Tiger was lighter than the quoted 54 tonnes as it has 16 less road wheels.
62 kilos is a lot of tank irrespective of what it would weight "to scale"
I suppose I could just about carry such a weight.
Really though ramps would be required to transport and unload it.
As for painting it......
If I had one I would want to paint it
Which camo and which division though ?
