Tamiya Early Tiger 1 Static to RC Build
Re: Tamiya Early Tiger 1 Static to RC Build
Wow! I'm surprised that the package got to you that quickly. Yeah, the M2 screws with the scale bolt heads were a neat thing to discover. I believe they're made to replicate the lugs that hold on the wheels of a tractor truck, but I thought they would work pretty well for some of our tank applications. For example, on both the Tamiya King Tiger and Panther, you have to use two M2 screws to hold each of the roadwheel arm brackets in place. They use M2 screws with a Phillips head, and although they're mostly hidden behind the roadwheels, they still bug me as being very out-of-scale looking. There aren't a LOT of places where you can see the head of the screw on a finished tank, but when you can and it's an M2 screw; these are a nice thing to have in your bag of tricks.

Mike,
Thank you, my Friend. ;o) I've got armor coming up which will totally benefit from those. The metal shackles ( complete with a little rust on the turnscrew ) will look great on the Tiger. It's going to be a busy day today, staining the decks and pouring some parts for the Stuart. I should be able to grab a moment or two this weekend to put a coat of desert yellow on the lower. ;o)
regards,

Hotte,
Thank you for the follow along. ;o) Tonight saw the lower receive its coats of desert yellow and those lovely road wheels get primered. On the side, I cleaned up the tow shackles and primered those and rust loosener-ed the road wheel bolts where they had acquired a patina of rust as well. Pics:

Re: Tamiya Early Tiger 1 Static to RC Build
Good morning Tiggr,
Seriously tho, these Wecohe road wheels are a treat to look at and work with. Strong as the heavy ones from Taigen\Torro and light as the Tamiya plastic originals. I will definitely have to try to find a set when I build my Tiger. The only disappointment was in how the steel axles had rusted. I've got them sitting in WD-40 and will clean them up today.

Adlav, RC it! ;o) I don't have a lot of spare time today for tank fun as there is a function tonight that we have been invited to: ( a sort of Hippie Days town Pot Luck to honor the folks who moved here in 1968 and kept Gardner from becoming a ghost town ) So I took an hour at lunch and using a product from Dupont, scoured the rust off of those road wheel axles for the Tiger build. Re: Tamiya Early Tiger 1 Static to RC Build
Post came in from RCTank.de yesterday for this Tiger. I had ordered a blue Convoy light and a turret LED MG ( Twice it seems ) At any rate, the convoy light that came in yesterday was green and may have been for a Jagdpanther\Panther. If I have ordered another one in blue by accident, that may be a good thing. Any experts on what color I should be using for this early Tiger 1? I can always salt the green one away for the rebuild of my Panther or a future Jagdpanther build. Also, Mike prefers that the original Tamiya plastic wheels with bushings be used on his Tiger. I found out yesterday that the lovely Wecohe metal road wheel set is for me. I'll store those away and gladly use them on a future early Tiger build of my own. Mike, I cannot thank you enough, seriously! Pic:

Pulling together all of the parts to do the running gear in Steps 12-14 today. Everything seems to be here. The road wheel parts are pre separated and bagged individually by type thanks to Sass. He also has very nice metal sprockets and idlers to use. I will start primering and painting anew tomorrow. Pics:
