I find it interesting that even though as you say (nearly 50 
) Herman how effective the 17 pounder mounted Sherman was as a Tank buster in service with British Armoured squadrons , Usually one per squadron, and disguised as shown to merge with the Sherman's,
The American Military refused to have any in their squadrons and would not usually deploy their own equally effective "Tank destroyers" in anything other than their own Tank Destroyer units.
