Snow alright, but its dry cold eh !!
I feel that suggesting an alternate trip than that to Canada such as Stanthorpe would result in a nasty cut to the eye for me :/

On instruction I compared the Hobby Boss turret to my H/L turrets storage bin and they are in fact the exact same size, I believe it to be an optical illusion that the storage bin is smaller due in part to there being no brackets and the portion of the storage bin that contacts the turret is wider then that of the storage bin on the H/L turret which changes the angles of the sides slightly. However the rear portion of the bin is the same size to the mm. The angles of the bin sides don't bother me in the least as the only way to pick up on it is to have both turrets right in front of you with a ruler. So the Hobby Boss turret is more then fine for what I'm doing.

The width straight across a standard Tiger turret bin, at the widest part, is 1377mm.

The width straight across the front corners, which touch the turret, is 1165mm.

The standard bin never has side supports.

So the H/L bin is incorrect then because of those brackets. I'll have to check the measurement and get back to you, thanks for them Dave.

David I did a little math and I come up with in 1/16 scale they would be 86.0625mm (I'm going to round it to 86mm) and 72.8125 (we'll round this one up to 73mm. Now I'm rounding these down and up mainly because I have no way to measure .0625 of a mm or .8125 of a mm) Using these measurements I measured the Hobby Boss Tiger storage bin at 86mm at its widest and JUST under 73mm at its narrowest where it joins to the turret so it would seem that the Hobby Boss storage bin is actually correct. I can post you pics if you would like me to of the ruler on the bin so you can see for yourself, not sure where it being incorrect came from but it would seem that if it is incorrect its DAMN close!

That's really interesting, because in photos it looks too far from the turret side door.
I don't have a Hobby Boss kit to measure, but I have to wonder now about the diameter of the turret itself, and the position of the door.

OK, I found a good photo of the Hobby Boss turret seen from above.
The turret door is out of place. As I said, it should be almost touching the bin.

How close should it be in its closed position? It needing to be moved it a MUCH easier fix then rebuilding the storage bin!

I have a couple metal ones that are hinged but you say they should have no bevel on the edges but these do as well, are the Taigen ones incorrect as well? The ones I have are the Hobby Boss, H/L, and the metal Taigen one and I swear they all have a bit of a bevel to the edges on the sides. Now I could see 1 or maybe 2 companies getting it wrong but all 3? I'm not doubting you David as you are extremely knowledgeable about the Tiger, I'm wondering if perhaps all of them may be using 1 tank in particular to get measurements from and if it possibly had beveled edges leading them to produce there's that way as well?

The Taigen ones don't have as much an angle to them as the Hobby Boss door does but they do none the less have some.

The hatch was at the 45 degree point exactly. That is, the center of the hatch was at 4:30 o'clock on the turret, with the gun pointing to 12 o'clock.

This is non-negotiable, it's in the basic German drawings for cutting the armour, and many other things are positioned around it; the standard turret bin was designed to clear the hatch by just a few centimeters.

So, no matter what museum Tiger they may have looked at, they never saw the hatch out where they put it. I can't explain what they were thinking. No 35th scale model has this mistake.

I've looked at some photos of Mid Tigers and they have the hatch in the same position as expected.

As for the bevelled sides; it was back in 1998, I think, that Doyle and Jentz published their famous Tiger book with a list of production changes, and they said clearly that the Mid hatch was a simple disc. So, these companies just haven't done the research. If they would get me onboard their projects, I'd put them straight.
