Well I’m one of those newbie’s who has no idea what he is doing. I'm still working on my first tank and i know for a fact it will have faults. However I’m happy for people to point them out to me, just so long as they are happy if i decide take no notice. Some detailing i have done, some i might do if its pointed out..Others i might decide are above my skill levels.

Sure point out errors, many will want pointing in the right direction, but please don't jump down peoples throats about it. People need to remember that everyone is different, some don't give a toss for detail, some lose sleep over it but we all have one thing in common, this madness called an hobby

You've probably got the best attitude there cal, think i'll try it. With a pair of beer goggles on it'll look great and if anyone criticises it you'll be too bladdered to care!

My oh my, this has stirred up a hornets nest hasn't it?

I always thought that the 'Show Off' section was for people who were proud of their work, and the 'Masterclass' section was for people who were proud of other people's work?

I would quite happily view nice models in the show off section, as a good paint job is a good paint job regardless of whether it is authentic or not. However, if I was looking for authentic scale models perfect in every way, then I would expect to see them in the Masterclass section.

It will come as no surprise to anyone that none of my tanks are in the latter section....lol

Exactly you hit the nail on the head there mate

Sorry to keep blowing the same tune guys, but the main theme of this hobby of ours is "if we are happy with our own work then it's good, if someone else admires it, then it's a bonus, if nobody gives a comment good or bad, then really - who cares?"

Enjoy it for yourself and if you can spread a little joy fantastasical. Let's just help each other if we ask for it and if we don't, don't knock it!

I vote for constructive critiscm.  My tank modeling got better because people educated me on prototypical practices and equipment.  I came from a Model railroad background and had zero knowledge about tanks.  I can paint and detail until the cows come home, but I needed the experience of forum members to take my tank modeling up a notch.  Most of you know my home is RCU, and I have generally found that bunch to be very helpful.  My summer cottage is turning out to be this forum, which I also find helpful.

Better then picking apart someones work is to start another thread showing your work with prototypical accuracies showing the way. It is contributors that make or break a forum, and if the membership is made up of only guys offering advise, but no modeling, it will get very quiet around here.  Encourage contributions, and respectfully work with the contributors to make the best model and thread possible.  My biggest concern is the lack of posts on these tanks forums.  A lot of MRR forums have pages of activites daily.  Tanks forums tend to be pretty quiet sometimes, and I like lots of activity.

My attitude is if I post a picture, I better be able to take some helpful advice without being offended.

Also, some threads are a lot of work for guys,  If somebody shows you something that you really think is a cool method or good idea, don't be afraid to say thanks.

Well said YHR. Hopefully the addition of the new boards in the tank builds section will be of help to beginners and experts alike. As we know the vast majority of 1:16 tankers start with the good old Tiger 1 so when they decide to spread their wings and buy another tank the info they need to correct basic manufacturing errors with their new tank will be available to them in the new section.

this worked out nicely all-round, thanks to john for starting the thread Keith for suggesting a new board and Matt for getting doing it. i think we can all take criticism if its fair and done the right way and not just an excises in who thinks they know more than others.
we all had to start from the beginning and then try new things as we gained more experience, thats what modeling is all about this also includes the internal RC gear of our tanks as well.
some guys want the perfect replica tank! and thats great, others want just a bit extra detail! thats cool too, and a few are happy with it just from the box! no problem with that, but as long as its constructive criticism and fairly rendered too all who show their work then i,m happy, personally i think this site is great and has just gone up another notch in becoming one of the best RC sites on the web............
