In common with most observers of military history I have always admired the soldierly way that Erwin Rommel went about his duties, one part of his career that gets little publicity is his work in the middle to late 30s and yet this is the keystone to the close relationship between him and Adolf Hitler, He was in charge of Hitler's bodyguard at that time! and in my opinion it says a lot about the Field Marshal that he finished that job untarnished by the political dirty tricks going on around him, Oh the film,(THE DESERT FOX) I wonder is that the one with James Mason in the role of Rommel? If so it was and indeed is a very good biography of his later career.I have to declare an interest as my Father was the ADC to the author (PETER YOUNG) of the book upon which the film was based shaun
