And prices, apart from my leo 2, I've never paid more than £450 for a Tamiya. My Taigan Tiger cost about that and still doesn't have the intrinsic quality of materials. Even at the worst exchange rate in the last 10 years, that doesn't come anywhere near the prices you mention.

And no, I'm not biased, however I own or have owned most of the 1:16 Tigers on the market so I can say precisely what is good and bad about them. That means I can be objective, if I think the Tamiya is the best value and best tank, that's because I have a well informed point of reference. That isn't bias.
Enough already Bill...I did say Tamiya is his best choice....the other brands didn't come in through me...go check for yourself... I just responded..just like you could have.... if it helps...and I think it does when someone is shelling out their dollars...then it helps....it's SSGT's decision...not sure why you are trying to sell me on anything ... but I have to say to that is...I'm not in the Market.. :D

and once again...ALL BRANDS HAVE FLAWS...THEY ALL NEED TWEEKS...that will always be the bottom line for me

Guess you don't know me well enough Bill... I own all the tanks I spoke about ...yes I do have Tamiya..and yes Taigen as well..as Heng Longs... have done the homework before purchasing all of them... also the math.. so really... I have no Idea what you are talking about...just because you have years means nothing....at least I say something and help people...seems all you can do is criticize other POSTERS..... we are talking tanks..not posters ... If you cannot tell the difference ... then you just can't ... and don't go blaming anyone for that :haha:

PS. Seems you also don't understand english... I said it was enough... ENOUGH IS ENOUGH... this is SSGT's thread...and we all should respect that without this kind of ridiculous banter...also Tamiya and Mato is what SSGT is looking at...I voted Tamiya.... you trying to throw in another candidate? ...go ahead if you think it will help... because there are a bunch of options out there...but the defined choice is between two :P

SSGT Robbo wrote:Hi guys, I am looking to buy a 1/16th scale Rc tank. ( German Tiger 1)

I have mainly been looking at the Tamiya / Mako series of kits. Both seem to offer the same level of quality but the Mako kits are significantly cheaper, whilst also being produced in metal .
Are there any kits in particular that you would recommend with regard to the tiger 1 ? It would be good to get the advice of more experienced RC tankers before splashing a few hundred £"s on a kit. Im finding it difficult to choose.

Thanks for your time guys.
Not sure where you hail from SSGT Robbo.... I vote Tamiya... just make sure your vendor is reputable ...just in case ...perhaps open some dialog before making the purchase just to see how they communicate :D

I criticized 1 person for giving bad, inaccurate advice, pointing out factual errors.

I'm done with this, it isn't doing anyone any good, least of all the original poster.

Has anyone noticed that the guy who originally posted this thread hasn't come back??

In my reply way, way above I said 'We're a friendly bunch'... - but this guy must feel he's been trampled in the debate.

I know it's called RCTankWarfare but I'm sure we can avoid taking that literally. Now where's that smiley face emoticon..?

Hi Robbo
You asked about the merits of some of the Tiger 1 models available to you.
I see it like this,IF i had a list that put all the models in a Best to worst order it would read something like this

Tamiya
Mato
Taegen
Heng long.

Best=Tamiya, why? because out the box you get a good detailed high quality product that will run on your choice of radio gear. (i own 2)
Worst =Heng Long why? The Tank is a toy, crap electronics, crap cheap and nasty transmitter, total crap sound, crap molding (even the turret is in the wrong place) and in the 7 i have purchased over the years 4 had major problems out the box (bent wheels tiger1,bb gun/smoke unit lasting a day on m26)

Tamiya seems to hold a good second hand value
Heng long and the others do not.

The other makes are all upgrades of the heng long tanks in one form or another and every one of them has crap electronics, yes even the 2.4ghz,they are simply crap.

Yes you can upgrade any of the above models in both running gear, electrics and detail.
Yes you can correct any fault on the model regarding detail or even that turret i mentioned.

Your skills?
Can you paint with an airbrush?
Can you scratch build from all sorts of material?
What do you want to spend and how long do you want to be doing it for?

So,the final word from me would be to use your own head and go with what takes your fancy because no matter what you buy,the idea is to like what you are doing and have fun with it.Tamiya are to dear and heng long are just crap.
As for me on the Tiger 1,i bought one a month or so ago,a heng long sqs version, you can see it under my posts,(Tiki Tiger),this was one that had both sides wheels bent outwards, every one of them.
It now runs ok and looks nice i think with its paintwork.
It is so nice that even though i could go down the upgrade road with this,i will not because if i spend £900 on it,it is STILL a heng long and i would be lucky to see £150 back for it on ebay second hand and as i can buy the Tamiya Tiger 1 fo for £411 free p&p to my door, that is where my money will go.
Ohh btw, there is a second hand Tamiya tiger 1 on ebay right now
Its £400 second hand.

Robbo
My views are my own and given to you as i honestly see it with no bs and no rose colored glasses.
Many will not agree with me,many may be enraged and want to flame.
I have 40 years in rc models and 20 years in world cup rc riggers.
I am not a FANBOY of Tamiya and i still buy heng long, but i buy them knowing they are crap and there is an old saying
You can't make a silk purse out of a pigs ear.
