Good thing on the side is the cavity that was created by the turret & guts now removed should make sufficient space to box out & turn into some form of store for ammo etc as fits the machines role.
I have steel gear boxes for it as well as all metal running gear & Winterketten, so the usual caution will still apply.
I was going to use the redundant turret for a Panzerturm Bunker, but with the Ibsa for ole Whitey, this would take a sideline for now. Would be cool though to buy a reciever & transmitter to make the thing work
Good Morning, Herman,
I agree and you should make that a feature of some tanking area that is modular so that upon arriving home after a day of fun, it goes back to being a diorama.
regards,
Painless

Does not seem to have any immediate use in respect to the standard model's requirements, so why is it there ?
its going to be closed over regardless, but curiosity being what it is.............why ?
The return rollers have been smashed with the glue monkey's weapon of choice - a fire hose - so they will be a "sacrificial lamb" when I really did not want too many complications.
This build is supposed to be like getting a sly moment with your best mates Mrs..............get in- get done- get out, but it seems I am going to be caught with me strides down.........I can just tell.
That's where they eject Hockey pucks.... so you have to have it there
Just kidding................
Thought everyone knew what that was lol....that's for the low low end HLs.... you switch the frequencies with it...that way you can battle up to three tanks on the Low end
Ok, gotcha............well, this thing has a lot of holes that need filling.
Got out the putty & overfilled all the holes- including the hockey-puc dispenser !! Backed the holes with plastic card.
Also began the relocating of the folding aerial. Used the standard base, removed from the evil clutches of the factory glue fiend and drilled out the inside of the hull to accept it. Heated the end up with me trusty Jamie Oliver kitchen butane burner & pressed it in. Once cool, pushed it back out again.
Its a fraction short of flush with the hull interior, but by the time I screw in the cable it should be just tight enough to fold up & stay up by itself. But fold down if required. No turret to worry about, so no issue to hard mount up really. Good to see if the simplest version will work for future reference.
I may try to duplicate the socket that is correct for the outside, but as this is kind of an "Alpha-special quickie" it may just get the normal aerial bent up to suit with the spring coils to attach to the outer spigot. will see.
Fitted up the metal suspension and H/D springs...............pretty stiff it is, so they too may get the heave ho back to standard springs.
The lead and trailing arms have the vertical springs in the tele-tubes, so these will pretty much act as track tensioners.
The metal return roller kit is on the way, so I can just tear the standard ones off if necessary. I have a plan for the old roller mounts later on, so cant be too brutal, but the basic mounts will be getting carved up if things go to plan, thats a fair old way off yet though.
Cheers Mr 'F'
The Winterketten are slightly wider than Ostketten(and earlier), but you're right , both will fit inside skirt armour. by all accounts its the timing of the introduction of added skirt armour V snow tracks..............the snow tracks seem to be first, but these were seasonal and dont seem to be dallied about at this time. Most of the period pictures are either/or not both !
This is going to be a munitions tractor in suport of the tigers, so as a second/third line machine combat wise, it was still vital that it kept up with its fighting unit at all costs. The Schleppers were essentially reliable yet secondary machines that numbers could be afforded to be used in vital support roles where conventional transport of munitions etc could not go.
Makes sense to me to have the snow tracks fitted to the primary support machines of the 'heavy-hitters"
I summise that the transition of a combat veteran PzIII into a Tiger munitionschlepper took many factors, combat viability, area of operations, requirements of priority units, season, availability, etc etc...............just seems the right thing to do is have one in support of the White Tiger
Well team, i heated them, stuck red hot pointers thru them and left them......................came back & did no more than rip the others off with a pair of pliers.
delicate was just not working.
Pulled the inner wheel shaft out then grabbed the housing with the pliers & reefed on each one until the locating pins broke off clean in the hull.
Then drilled out the remaining pin material.
took ages to do the front two, and they are much better located than the other four at the rear to get at from the inside.
Frustration got the better of me & brute force was the next process !!
Worked like a charm, still keep my 6 plastic mounts for the upcomming project(number 6) and the new metal roller mounts are on.
Also, got the steel gears out of the packet & set about them too. Found the motors were loose on the box plates. one was stripped right out of the box. Changed both of them back to the ones it came with. The original motors seem stronger than the new gear set ones. The new set had black ends on the motors - the ones it came with have white ones.
Any difference that you know of ?
