Alpha,
Very mean and fearsome as well. I have a fondness for the Howitzer mounted version tho'. You know Uncle Joe, he didn't really care about the tanks or tankers, just that they fought and fought hard.

Painless

Thanks Painless. Still some minor work to do on it and then it would be complete. The problem is just finding some time to finish it. Been bit busy of late.PainlessWolf wrote:Good Morning, Sir,
W.O.T. was close. The Soviets were testing the 122mm version of their anti-tank gun. It eventually went on the IS series as the KV chassis was deemed 'obsolete'. (Kliment Voroshilov had fallen out of favor.)
How goes the Panther G, Jeff? Do you have it finished to your satisfaction and up and running? I am still intending to put your tank forward for consideration for the Masterclass Thread.

Agree. That long barrel helps imparts enormous kinetic energy to the projectile. I could only imagine the recoil forces given that blast plus the fact that the barrel doesn't have a muzzle brake...ALPHA wrote:Hello Jeff... Yeah that thing is really something.. check the people in the background... two of them are holding their ears... after that check the suspension ... and how the firing of the gun actually rocks the tank backwards...talk about something being deadly.. can't imagine what would have happened if that thing went into productionjeff1101 wrote:Nice pics! And i always thought that the KV2 sporting the long barrel 90 mm gun was a myth from WoT (i.e. paper panzer with no actual prototypes built). Guess I was wrong again...ALPHA wrote:Hey Painless.... not to confuse your current plan...but...we've both witnessed the creation of Super Pershings... How about a Super Kv2

Re: 1941 KV-2A Research
Friday and Saturday saw some very nice additions to the research being done on this tank's build. First from Sassgrunt's vast Library came Neal Stokes' definitive book on the KV series, The Technical History and Variants. This accompanied a very intricate 1/35 model kit of the KV-2A from Trumpeter. Mike, You are Aces! ;o) I'm jumping between building the kit and reading the book. It is very, very cool to see the details in the book come to life on the model as I work on it. Lastly, on Sat., I received the Ground Armor 1/72 Capture version of the KV-2A, the Pz.Kpfw 754(r) This version is painted in the tri-tone camo used for setup for the Malta campaign by Pz.Abt.56 Excellent to finally see the two versions of the KV-2 side by side. Today I will continue reading and complete the Trumpeter kit and give some thought as to which paint scheme to display this 1/35 scale version in.

Alpha,
It certainly seems that way. At times of late, I lie awake at night considering versions. It is all in fun and as for that fabled three letter word, I had a blast building the Trumpeter kit. I suspect it will be done in slightly darker green than the 1/72 scale Unimax version. Difficult to locate the Tamiya or Model Master paint right now locally so I will either make my own or wait til' I return to paint this one. Here is the completed kit. I love three dimensional research!

Re: 1941 KV-2A Research
Over work today, I took lunch and primed the 1/35 KV-2A with the Tamiya grey primer. After the day was done, I did a shadow job on the primer and followed that up with two alternating light coats of Model Masters Medium Green and Bomber Green. The results are on a par with the WWII Soviet's 'Protective' color palette, tint of yellow and all. Now I have 4 paint schemes to consider. Panzer Grau, German Tri-Tone, Bomber Green and now my version of 'Protective' Green. I won't have any more time to work on\weather this before I leave town on Friday but I have several color schemes to think on now and can move forward when I return.

By the way Painless... without a side by side line up of your 3d research vehicles.... It's hard to tell which would be a choice for your captured... so just by memory.. I kind of like the tri color pattern
