It is a pleasure to be of use. ;o) No apologies needed, I am not pointing out bad stuff, just excellent stuff! I looked up the square doohickey. It is an auxiliary antenna mount mostly used by the British Sherman crews who had a #19 radio set which required an extra antenna be there. I saw that even the earliest turrets had this mount and it is present all the way up to the 105 mm turrets and only missing on tanks like Fireflys. An interesting bit of History. Here is an excellent database of American AFVs where I located that odd tidbit of information: http://afvdb.50megs.com/index.html

Yeah. There certainly are so many variants and subtle changes. I wouldn't know where to begin if and when I finally get my hands on one. But great seeing everyone else blaze the path. :)

It's tough... you could Google M4A3 SHERMAN... and get dozens of different variants... turret detail hull detail which gets very confusing ....with that said... there is more clarity on the later models

:haha: Hang on... just Hang on there Canned :haha: It's not that I wouldn't want to trade... but I am not dissatisfied with mine yet :haha: ...which I might be after attempting the creation of the mantlet cover  ;) ....till then though...If you are still not satisfied with your IDF...well you could just " gimmie" that sucker :haha:

Thanks for the kind comments on the turret foundation....which in my mind ... I thought would be a tougher conversion.... sorry I didn't include the "how I did it" part of the pictorial... but it's hard to stop once the process begins ;)

I really like how your IDF turned out... the dirty is a good base... just highlight it a little like how Painless was planning to do with his

and do have fun doing it... it's the best way..and if you aren't having fun..do what I do and just step away... till another day :D

all the best to you Canned

Good morning, Alpha,
I have good news for you regarding the modification of your Saunder's Sherman's rear bulkhead. Tamiya makes the over the bulkhead exhausts and the air filter units _and_ the double doors as separate pieces available on a sprue. You will need Tamiya Sherman Parts sprue: 'B' and parts sprue 'C' (get the 'C' sprue only if you intend to screw them into place like Tamiya does) The parts sprues are labeled the same for the Super Sherman if you find the sprues for that Model. I checked on the Tamiya America site while looking for the fiber optic piece for the bow MG on my Sherman. Have a great day, my friend ;o)

Hey Painless.. thanks.. Mike actually turned me on to that sprue of Tamiya parts.. with the double doors that I thought I needed...as I had the impression my version was the ALCO... but because of the lack of the wankel engine lid..and the inclusion of low slung rear hull...it's more like the fisher

which doesn't have any doors :lolno: ... an angled bottom where the hitches are... and a totally different exhaust.. and deflector ...which in the top photo looks like an angled pan

So you can guess who's going to be busy hammering copper to make all of those parts Image
the silver lining is there are no air buffers in the rear... they must have moved them to the inside of the engine compartment ... but who knows... they might be there and I just can't see them Image

Suffice to say the SHERMAN is turning out to be a really really fun build ...........................not :haha: :haha:
I'm actually finding that SHERMANS are meant for crazy people  ..... :haha: present company not included ;)

Thanks Painless

Small update... since the "use" votes were so overwhelming...I decided to go with the copper mantlet.... I was going to make the rotater plate last night... but decided to mod the barrel first.... turns out the barrel of the HENG LONG is metal  and not sleeved plastic...so I chucked it in my drill and machined it down to the measurements taken from the T34 (mantlet forward) from the thickest point to the point of that matched the SHERMAN'S barrel... sorry no pictures... as I figured once I finish and install the rotater plate... I could show it then :D
