If by 'butchered' you mean 'carefully dismantled', then yes I guess they will, the metal gears in the Tiger I have here are so bad that they don't even mesh for 50% of the rotation. I've no idea what some people do with these tanks, I couldn't wreck gearboxes armed with a chisel and a mallet??

Thanks for the incredibly warm welcome and advice. I have just ordered the Clark TK22 and Turnigy I6 (I think) for the Tiger. I'm very interested in one of Rob's IR systems, if someone could point me in the direction of them that would be great!

Once again, thanks for a fantastic day. I will be back, with others in tow!

It was good to see new faces. We look forward to a return visit. For Rob's battle system, if you go to the Electronics forum, and scroll down you will find a thread "Installing a battle system". Sorry, i can't post a link from my phone.

I can assure you that making the battle system really is as easy as it looks.

Just get four sensors, solder three different coloured wires to each of the three legs. Same colour on the same leg on all four. Use heatshrink.
Glue the sensors in place.
Note down which colour is on which leg.

Strip insulation from all four of each colour. Eg Four sensors, Leg 1, Leg 2, Leg 3.
Twist each set of four together.
Dip them in flux.
Solder them to hold them together.
Get a longer length of all three colours.
You only need three.
Strip the insulation.
Dip the end of the upper set that are twisted together into flux.
Dip the single wire with the matching colour into flux.
Slide a piece of heatshrink on.
Solder the two bare ends together.
Cover with heatshrink.

Ensure that the single wire reaches the board with a bit to spare.
Follow the guide in the link that Silversurfer provided to see which wire connects to which wire on the 5 pin plug.
Solder each one of the three wires to the corresponding wire on the 5 pin plug.

All that you then need to do is exactly the same with three or four normal white, red or yellow 5v led's.
That's the equivalent of a Tamiya apple, and it costs hardly anything.

Then you just solder the IR emitter led to two lengths of wire.
Install the led.
Solder the other ends to the 2 pin plug.

Job done, a fully functioning battle system.

Mount the IR emitter in a 17mm tube, this should leave 9mm between the tip of the led and the end of the tube. This is what is required for an accurate IR beam.
The tube can be recessed or standing proud, it depends what fits the tank. There is a handy hole in the mantlet on Tigers.

Good to see you guys today, and if you need any help with anything just ask away, we are more than happy to help.

Rob

Fantastic, thank you. I'll have to practice my soldering I think. :haha:

Thanks, I may need a hand, I'm not what you'd call competent with a soldering iron.... Hopefully I'll be able to manage installing the TK22! :haha:

If anyone wants a system installed then let me know, I will only charge for parts, eg 4 sensors, 4 led's, and an IR emitter plus a small charge for my time. The easiest install is using the systems we discussed at the meet. If you are ordering then you will need the board, the 5 pin IR plug, a 2 pin IR plug, and a 2 pin muzzle flash plug. PM me if you require clarification on what exactly to order.
