Interestingly enough...even if you stay with the model as it came out of the box...there is so much details you could add...Giant's Build is excellent ...I have taken many pages from his book...as well as ATC's...if you take notes from both...you could come out with a very nice M1a2 Version 1 Abrams :D

Good Luck with yours Scalawag...we will all be following along

My tool lipos have 2 vents in them which I think are there to keep them from being damaged by overheating in use and the charger will not start to charge a hot battery until it has cooled down. Any thing like that on the lipo sticks or chargers for rc use?

The batteries actually look a lot like the NiCds and NiHis ....chargers too...but yes the chargers are vented...but are much better in design than those for the old batteries...I don't use a fancy digital one...I just use a mini smart charger...it's pretty good..tells me if the battery is no good...shuts off by itself after a few minutes once the battery is charged...and charges it the right way...balanced and slow ;)

I've three chargers for NiCad stick batteries. Two ancient ones left over from long ago rc car racing that are guaranteed to fast charge a battery pack (always needed that to be back on the track quick) also to wear out a battery fast if the 5amp option is used. Funny thing is I still have one old battery left form those days that nothing seems to be able to kill. have retired it to just being a motor tester out of respect for its greatness. Currently using a digital charger that lets me decide on charge rate, but it decides if the battery is chargeable, overheating or when the charge is done in which case it shuts down.
You make the Lipo option sound less problematic then I had thought. May try it If I can get a good cheap charger. Still have about 50 good nicads packs though so would not change them out until they are shot.

Yup...that would be the one thing NiCds and NiHis have over Lipos...I wouldn't dare "fast" charge one....that's when they can become volatile :O also charging them with an early model unbalanced charger...which would charge the cells in series  ...especially the big Lipos...as the first few cell packs will heat up as the last one receives it's charge
With that said though...you should really try at least one Lipo....I put money on it you will never go back :haha:
