For large pieces a good primer-surfacer can do wonders. For stuff like the roof of the WC64 ambulance several coats of red oxide filled in quite a bit of the layer lines so I was able to print at a faster speed (thicker layers) and still get a good result with a minimum effort. However, for small detailed pieces FDM printers are never going to match the quality of an SLA printer that uses resin. The problem is that SLA printers are still new enough to be full of bugs and I just don't have the skills to overcome some of the problems, but I did have great success with small parts, like door handles and gas caps for 1/10 scale trucks. The print quality is excellent, almost as good as an injected molded kit piece, but there's a lot more hassle and clean up involved, and while you don't have to sand much there is still a lot of post print processing, like an alcohol soak and a session under a UV light. Right now it's just a twelve hundred dollar paperweight, but one day I'll get more resin and have a crack at it one more time. I'm thinking pioneer tools for all these little trucks will be a good place to start.

Yeah i think maybe i will wait for the SLA tech to come down in price a little more and buy one myself in time.
I think i have enough FDM printers now so i happy. we will see, maybe i will get a 5th, but i now have 4 in total.
2x Ender3 with upgrades(possibly going to set one of these for direct drive and v6 hot end)
1x Ender3 Pro which i intend upgrading, should arrive tomorrow or Wednesday
1x CR10s4 400x400x400, should arrive before week end
My wife has also asked the printers now have a dedicated space made for them with some extraction and somehow to control the dust. Spare bedroom as print space is maybe not so ideal haha
You guys are a BAD influence on me lol

We're not a bad influence, Will, we just bring out your
true nature.
I've decided to try pioneer tools for all these trucks in FDM, so I've created a file to print 3 each of shovel blades, handles, and complete axes. The shaft handles for the shovels will be made from real wood, maybe cocktail sticks? This would be a great time for Tom to give me his learned opinion on real wood handles in 1/16 scale (hint, hint).
And as always, if any of you guys want the file I will share it freely.
And I don't know what the hell is wrong with me, but I ordered one of these. I guess it was the low price and free shipping that lured me in. Whatever, I don't plan to do much with this besides detail and some decent RC kit. I think this thing can be made into a great truck with proper paint, detail and weathering. I'm having these foolish visions of moving windshield wipers. Silly Rabbit.
I'll do a box opening when it gets here

Hehe. Do you get a prize when you buy your 5th printer? That can wait till next year lol.
I can also say my wife encouraged it hehe. Looking forward to receiving the new toys.
Although I'm off to the land of the rising Sun soon, so maybe have to wait to play until I get back.

Don't stay gone too long. I just started a thread for trailers and I'm sure you'll have lots of juicy stuff to post there. I can't wait.
