Herman,
*chuckles* Thanks! The figure is really detailed yet oddly enough does not come with the headset brace or any of the wiring. I had some left over wiring and brass tho' so all was soon put right.

Painless

Finished up the StuG Build last night with a couple of hours worth of weathering. I used Tamiya's excellent Weathering kits. I haven't found anything local to date that beats the great job that these neat little kits do on large scale armor. I'll do a follow up Show-Off thread once I am certain that the vast Steppes of Russia are free of subversives and dog poo this weekend. Pictures:

Good Morning,
Paul, thank you, my friend! The point on the headset is well made. I eyeballed it and left it a bit long since this fellow has one cup pushed up on the side of his head. He likes to wear the set loose ( like me ;o) I'm glad that you like the way he turned out. Like you, I started with the skin tones then went from there. I followed your handy tip from my last figure ( on the 'Palace' ) and did small details first then came along with covering colors later. I briefly considered getting a set of those eyes that we talked about but this fellow's eyes are slit very small and I would have had to dice up the decal to even use it. I completely spaced trying out the Tamiya badging for the uniform but the work I did with outlining came in not too shabby. ;o)

Painless

Paul,
Beautiful example that! Those fellows did like to wear those sets all over their noggins, did they not? Your cap is shorter, ( a later issue type? ) and the wiring is superb as most of it is not molded into the uniform. Is this a Tamiya figure? ( Love the decal badging set as well ;o)

Painless

*chuckles* Speaking again as the genesis for 'Crazy Joe', no one is more surprised than me when one of these guys I paint comes out looking even vaguely human. I'm taking Paul's tips seriously and trying to get better at it. No sense putting all that time and effort into a piece of Armor then your crew comes off half baked. I'll definitely be snipping the headset bridge shorter and applying a little brown to the wires before the camera comes out tomorrow. I know now that the better the figure's casting, the more you can expect after paint. I have managed to turn out a couple of decent HL figures but they are the exception, not the rule. ( Generally, the earlier ones too, oddly enough ) Thanks, guys! ;o)
regards,
Painless

Well it might be coincidence....but it's uncanny how yours Painless...is gazing up at his brow....like he's getting self conscious about how or why his cap is sitting on his forehead....and Scalawag's...who's expression is more like "HO HUM"...like that was the best fitting cap he could get
Terrific Jobs on both

Taking up the tips offered by Scalawag, I redid the headset brace and wiring for the Commander. It looks much, much better, less cone shaped now ;o) Pictures:
