5th set of fotos for you to check out.

Hull is now complete and in first coat of primer to check for where filler needs applying. I am still waiting for the tools to arive so I can't make the tool clamps yet, and the cable clamps can be fitted later.

I have added a couple of fotos with the turret in place. It extends too far to the rear so off with 1 and half inches there. Also the turret should have a lot of clearance underneath to the rear of the turret ring, so chop it up there. The sides are also tapering in at the bottom of the turret, it should be straight down....filler here.

Turret next.......

Centurion part 5

Post by mickyb »

Hi guys

I have just posted a few more fotos of the Cent for you in the builds section where Matt has kindly moved them all under one post.

The hull is now in primer so that I can check where filler is needed and also see where the welds should be applied. It looks a bit easier to see how it went together now that it is all in one colour....apart from the overspray on the wheels...ooops :S

The tool sprue has not arived from the "sprue man" as yet so there are no fixings for the tools or tow cables in place.

There are a few fotos with the turret in place so that you will have a "before and after" when I have choped the turret down to size.

Hope you enjoy them....

Hi Paul

Yup, I was going to fit them for 2 reasons. The wheel-set and tracks I am using are not correct for the Cent so the Side panels will hide that, I hope. Second....I rather like the look of it with the side skirts in place. The MK5 always has them on in the fotos that I have as well.

I will fit the attachment brackets to the side skirts rather than fitting them to the tank. The reason for doing this is because I may have to remove the skirts for use on grass, there isn't much clearance under the fenders and around the wheels so grass may clogg the tracks and wheels.

This has not been a difficult build at all. This is my first scratch build and I was realy apprehensive about wrecking a good tank to build the Cent. I couldn't have done it without Oz's fotos, the biggest problem for me is interpreting them and cutting out things that will clutter the build. I think it's important not to try and make a fitting if you can't do it properly because it will spoil the outcome. There isn't anything to be afraid of because a tank is made from lots of flat plates welded together or glued in our case. I recon anyone can do what I have done it was not hard at all...honestly.

Mind you I haven't attempted the turret yet have I.

Centurion part 6

Post by mickyb »

Hi

this evening I have started the turret. There are fotos showing the work as it progressed during the evening, and one showing the cut down turret on the tank itself, you can see that the new size is more in proportion to the Cent hull.

I sanded off all the fittings and mouldings then chopped off about an inch from the rear, the underneath has been cut back as well. The fotos show the marked area that had to be cut away.

The turret hatch cannot be removed as it is part of the turret moulding....thats a bit fortunate because when I checked the fotos again, the MK5 has the same turret orientation that the Pershing has...lucky me. :P

I have closed off the turret with plasticard and added some scrap layers so that I wont need so much filler.

The fotos are in the Other Builds Section again, hope they are of use to someone or I am just filling up the server memory for no reason.....I await the bill from Matt :S

Have a good week

Centurion turret pics

Post by mickyb »

Here are the first fotos for the turret build.

These are a series showing this evenings work, from sanding down the turret fixings, marking the part to be cut off and closing the cut turret with plasticard.

The final foto of the turret shows how the new size is more in proportion to the hull.

Now for the filler......
