Re: Sherman Conversion
It would be great to see a reference list, thanks. I'm about to start the spring mod on a set of bogies from Dave. I'm going to try and strengthen the system somehow to allow it to take more weight, as I got the Schumo steel baseplate for inside.
One more question, if you don't mind. What is the stock speed of the Sherman like? Is it fast like other Tamiya's? I'm wondering if some gear reductions need to be fitted, or if there's even enough space for them?
Cheers,
Rik

Re: Sherman Conversion
Ok Books I have and gained info from about Brit Shermans include:-
CONCORD-AAW7027British_Tanks_Of_WW II (1)France & Belgium_1944 Author David Fletcher.
CONCORD-AAW7028-British tanks of WW II (2) Holland & Germany 1944-1945 Author David Fletcher.
CONCORD-AAW7062 British Sherman Tanks.
British Armour in the Normandy Campaign Author John Buckley (few piccies but very interesting read)
Osprey, Modelling the US Army M4 75mm Sherman Tank, Stephen J Zaloga
Tank. To hell with Tanks and Tanks Advance all by Ken Tout, who inspired me to do the sherman conversion.
and various internet sites.
Thing is you think you know about tanks and stuff, but after getting stuck into a bit of research, I felt quite ignorant. So many variations
and versions, then of course we Brits go changing everything, then the individual units do their own thing, you could spend months looking it all up and still not claim any expertise.
As for the model running, well it the Mato lower hull and running gear. It certainly dosnt need a steel plate, plenty strong enough. As for speed, the controller isnt as sharp as the Heng Long ones, but with a bit of practice it runs fine, annoyingly squeaky sound effects though. A lower ration gear set might improve it but Ive not seen one in action so can't really comment.

Re: Sherman Conversion
Simple answer yes
but you have to cut and shape a little. Key part is getting them to hinge around the Mantlet. But it will go ! I used hot glue a lot.

Re: Sherman Conversion
I just used the Mato ones, They do the same job, but, the controls are a little less smooth than the Mato ones. I mean the Tranny box is sprung harder and you have to be subtle with input or it just legs it across the ground. Bit of Practice and it goes just fine though. Sounds on the Mato would be ok but for the really really squeaky tracks
. If I had a spare HL set Id be inclinded to swap them but, wouldnt go out of my way mate.
