Maybe some "foldable" step/ladder for the crew to climb onto the tank?
Probably Shaun (Jarndice) can tell you more about it, he seems to be the P-IV specialist on here?

Perhaps the folks who created/copied this Taigen PzKw. IV found one in a museum, but failed to recognized that someone had left a new step ladder on the fender. Hey, jarndice, help me here before I come up with any more silly ideas.

I think that whoever designed that frame had been on the schnapps,
The round section should be a triangle with the longest side of the triangle pointing down and a box section frame in front usually carried in the turret bin it could be mounted between the spare wheel carrier box and the barrel cleaning rods,
In use it folded over the drivers side immediately behind the 3rd roller the crew would use it to help them change wheel/s,
Sometimes used by officers to climb aboard although climbing onto the side of a Tank was streng verboten

I added just a bit of stowage to this DAK Panzer IV and took some photos, unfortunately indoors as we are in winter weather here. Besides, I am many miles from any sandy, desert-like terrain.
In the photos I posted back in October (see above) the tank is surrounded by figures I painted. This time, I used three of the pre-painted Licmas DAK figures. Thank you, jarndice. Actually, the aerial is hiding in the trough. I decided to modify the "stock" aerial that came with the tank to make it scale diameter and length. Then I had to modify the "stock" Taigen aerial to make it fit in the down position, as the base actually did not fit between the hole for which it is intended and the end of the trough. It's not easy to see in photos or from any distance.
I have a few of the aftermarket aerial kits, but decided to go the cheap way this time. In fact, this year's expenses for car and home repairs has made me stick to inexpensive building, but I have plenty of projects and am enjoying them all.

I like the Taigen PzIV tracks that have the open guide horns. Not found on most other aftermarket tracks.
