Got home today & made a forced act of getting the compressor out & getting the 4BO on, no matter what.
So determined was I that the small amount of dark pre shading was missed by the camera, but the 4BO was not!
And I will say that this specific formula is my best ever.............
Wonderfully chalky matt, has all sorts of light refraction depending on the angle its looked at from, and the turret texture is spot on.
I still have the lightening/modulation to do but Ive blown the hose from the compressor to the airbrush :problem:
Not sure how to sort that out. Blew clean out of the crimp on the screw fitting on the brush end.

Im sure I will, but the modulation now has to wait.,................

Nice craggy turret! Is that the Sea of Tranquility just ahead of the rear grabrail?

Mike.

" Blew clean out of the crimp on the screw fitting on the brush end." Maybe you blew some hot air into the other end. :P

First job this morning was to try to repair the air hose.
I cut the thing off the barbed fitting and removed the section with the hole in it. Then using some stainless lock wire, twisted with pliers to secure the hose over the barb tail.
 Jobs on ! sorted.

On went the modulation. Using the last of my old AK 4BO modulation set, the highlights went on in the areas that would see the most sun and would have faded over time. Its good enough for me and I hope Mr Hugill likes it too as thats the entire object of the exercise!!
Im a bit apprehensive about the "caramel swirl" camo now, getting it to look like the colour plates in the subject pictures.
For now Im happy with how its going and certainly how far its improved from the start with just a little bit of TLC.

I went on with this with a "damn the torpedo's " approach...........

Used the remaining blend that I used on the T72 Lion Of Babylon as a base for the camo pattern.
Thought why not, and would have suffered a similar level of application by a hurried crew.
The various pictures both from the site that Mr Hugill provided and the Miniart box illustrations have a quite different shade.
Some look very Khaki/Dunklegelb, others look very washed out and pale, almost a Tamiya Deck Tan or Buff.

Its on and no putty was used. I figured that the real thing wasn't stenciled, or masked, so I reduced the air pressure as far as I could and blew outlines first then filled in the gaps.
Seems to have worked.
Then I went over the base camo with the same Sand Beige (71.244) that I used on my Syrian T72 to lighten it & shes complete.
Much weathering still to do but the foundation is in place.
