Re: indiana jones truck 1/18 scale
Hi folks...
I have bought a truck and my grandson has nicked it...little bugger. So I am off shopping tonite...again. ::)
Has anyone ever r/c'd something like this truck? I know the wheels are a bit naff, and the chassis would have to be chopped just behind the cab to install steering...but....because it is a twin axle, would I have to drive both rear axles to be sure of getting at least 1 pair of wheels in contact with the ground....or can I make it front wheel drive?
If it is a possible project....is there anything on the market that I could considder using as a donor vehicle for steering etc.
Can't you tell that I haven't got a ruddy clue?????? ::)

What you can use to replace the front and rear axles depends on the width. Tamiya make truck parts but I think they are 1/14th (though someone will be along to correct that if I am wrong).
Other than that, you are looking at 1/16 RC car parts?
Wheels etc will need to match the stub axles.
Front wheel drive would require the front half of an RC 4x4. RWD would be the easier route to go, though there are plenty of modellers out there who build some truly exotic all terrain vehicles. This one is my all time favourite, every single part was hand made, the guy is a genius. There is a build thread somewhere.

HPI, Tamiya do loads of spare parts for the R/C Cars, might even be worth investigating the hop up parts as these a usually made of metal and stronger than the normal spares, you can get different length dogbones ect so certainly worth a look, I've been thinking of getting one of these trucks and have been thinking of different possibilities for the rear wheel dribe, ie using a prop shaft (for rc boats), and a univesal coupling to the motor, and possibly some sort of gear/ worm drive which puts power to the rear axles via some sort of diff, or just direct to a diff less axle???
Re: indiana jones truck 1/18 scale
Hi...that sounds like a plan in the making. I will check out the model shop this weekend. Every time I look at the lorry I think why on earth didnt they put decent wheels on it???? Now I need to find a decent set of truck wheels too.
I have been into boats for years and didnt think of using a prop shaft....nice one. The worm drive idea will give terific torque from a high revving engine....I will start to get bits together.

there's quite a lot missing - Matt started the new forum from a backup that was taken around the 5th or 6th of October.

I managed to pick up two the other day, they are cool. Will strip off the back though and remake in real wood, will make a lot of difference. BTW tamiya stuff way too big for this, the 1/14 scale stuff is a lot bigger than you think.
Should fit nicely into teh village when we start building.
