Cast effect on the front?

"Cast effect on the front?" Ad Lav: are you telling me I need to make an improvement of some kind? I'm all ears (or, in this case) eyes.

The front of the Pershing was a cast section.

Mr Surfacer applied with a thick brush in a stippling motion. I did my Sherman turret with the same stuff.

I was counting on sprayed Mr. Surfacer 500 to handle scale cast effect. But I don't even find that too rough in 1/16 scale. So I will experiment with stippling some. I have another idea, too: thinned Mr. Liquid Putty.

Try a blend of Tamy putty and Mr 500 and stipple that.
But the brush is sacrificial.

Herr Dr. allow me to introduce you to Mr. Martin Kovac Aka "Nightshift" on Youtube.He is quite a good modeler and where I've learned a few tips and tricks.

Here is a video showing how he creates US armor cast texture. Just be ready to really be physical and beat up your tank. But the results are very worth it in my opinion-



I followed this process for my Jagdpanther build and was very satisfied with the results.

Now heres another trick I picked up. Tamiyas Airbrush Cleaner is virtually the same thing as their extra thin cement and a fraction of the cost. I use it for initial stippling as well as mix it with Tamiya basic or white type putty for finishing the texture.

Thank you Bix and Chef: I am away from home until Tuesday, but that being "Modelers' Day" I will have a chance to experiment some. I will definitely check out NightShift on this, as I have "subscribed" to his videos.

Martin Kovac's vids are great inspiration being for detailling or painting, they all are worth a watch even if it's not a vid of a tank we like.

They are grest vids. He is in commonsense in his approach to welds and cast finishes. Entertaining videos to watch and learn.
