Wow!

That is going to be an amazing looking StuG! TOTM written all over it! In fact, that would make a good TOTM contest. An all StuG contest, with all the variations it could be very interesting!
Cheers,
Eric.

As a lurker of this forum, I'd like to add that this build and your Hummel are fantastic submissions for sharing with the community. The detail you provide is fantastic and really will help others in the future. Keep up the good work!

Thank you guys, i am trying my best to make the build informative, maybe even something you have not seen before.
A couple of shipment arrivals from Europe allowed me today to continue the Stug build
This post is for the muzzle brake
As seen in my Stug reference book, the later Stug G was equipped with the muzzle brake with double circular features, similar to the L48 on the late Panzer IV Ausf H and J.

- 1/16 RC Sturmgeschütz - StuG III G Late - Alkett 1944 - build
This is the 1/16 scale ABER 16L-11 kit from Poland. It sells for about $45 on ebay, a significant expense and a luxury item.

- 1/16 RC Sturmgeschütz - StuG III G Late - Alkett 1944 - build
But i cannot stop admiring this little jewel of engineering and craftmanship in golden brass. It comes with two different mounts, Tamiya or Trumpeter. My barrel is a Trumpeter from a Panzer IV J, so the fit is perfect. I can see it would be a struggle installing it on a Heng Long or Mato barrel, these barrels are too large, it would look really weird.

- 1/16 RC Sturmgeschütz - StuG III G Late - Alkett 1944 - build
Assembly of the two main muzzle sections is straitforward with superglue, other than the little four PE plates that were supposed to be stacked up, filed and them placed in the slot that you see. The parts were so small, i could not handle them... My set of special pliers could not even grab them. Some real special pliers and optical equipment are required. To be replaced by something more manageable. But the rest of the muzzle brake is awesome.

The mount is glued to the Trumpeter barrel that i previously hollowed for the LED and wires.

The muzzle parts can be screwed and removed like the real thing. It's worth the price just for the experience of playing with it.

Here is the finished muzzle brake. A LED was installed inside for gun flash. Almost a shame to paint it.

Also got the Late model return rollers. Although advertised to be in plastic, they are made in resin. As such, they are quite fragile. As i wanted to install the tracks to perform some driving tests, i put them on. It will be interesting to see how long they last handling metal Ostkettens... I found and ordered some metal late rollers from Asiatam as i think these resin rollers won't last long.

They look good but too fragile.

These are the Mato winter kettens sold at Mato Mart. They initially ran like a pig but after 10 minutes of trials and tension adjustments, they seem to run better. I might have to soak them in oil as i can see they are hard on the gearbox.

As i have a Late Alkett model, i wanted the tubular distance indicator.

This is a kit for the tubular distance indicator, with blue LED, to be installed at the rear, left fender. Sold at RCTANK.DE

Assembly is straitforward with superglue.

Works well but it has that gizmo effect that i am not too sure about whether it is realistic or fake.

This is the model as it stands today. During the gun recoil tests, the recoil servo died... Once replaced, i will post a short video of the model in action.

Love a good StuG, and THIS , this is gooooooooood..............
The StgIII looks so 'tuff' with wider tracks, just seems to suit them.

Yes. as i already have a couple of regular Stugs, i wanted this new one to look different and tough.
Here is a short YOUTUBE video taken during the weapons system tests. I gave the Stug the coax machine gun present on late model saukopf mantlet. Yes, i need to subdue the LED a bit and fineture some adjustments. Only need to add the tow cables and that's pretty much it for the construction phase. As it has winter tracks, it will be given a winter camo. I also have a commander and a platoon of infantry riders on order for this one.

Hi,
This post is for the painting of the model.
As seen in reference pictures, winter camo is overall white and quite clean with only some darker dirt spots and highlight on the edges. I know some modelers like to have mud and snow on their tanks and tracks, but not me. I have ruined enough 1/35 and a couple of 1/16 kits with tentative mud/snow effects that i leave it to others that are better than me at this. This Stug will have a clean winter camo with clean tracks so that it does not impact its operations.

First, the vehicle is given an overall coat of Tamiya grey enamel primer.

- 1/16 RC Sturmgeschütz - StuG III G Late - Alkett 1944 - build
Then applied with a Tamiya Flat White acrylic coat.

- 1/16 RC Sturmgeschütz - StuG III G Late - Alkett 1944 - build
Then the model is dry brushed with Black, Steel and dirt pigments.

- 1/16 RC Sturmgeschütz - StuG III G Late - Alkett 1944 - build
The nice thing about metal road wheels is that the rubber bands can be removed for painting and put back, for a really clean demarcation difficult to achieve with paint.

Here are some pictures of the finished model.
