Hey Mike, one last minute thought.
When I first got my Taigen Tiger 1 I was confused by the main gun elevation and depression too. If I lowered the stick the cannon would depress but not raise back to an elevated position. I found out that if I just continued to hold the stick down, it would take about 5 seconds and the barrel would then elevate again. It seems that the if I went all the way up or down with the cannon the mechanism would need to go through a full cycle to return the cannon into position.
