That film has been a much-discussed here on RCTW and all over. I think it was o.k. through the understandably controversial scene in the German women's upstairs apartment. After that the film seems to get lost in incredible 'Murrican heroics. There was a real Fury, different from the movie tank, and probably well deserving of a model, too.

Bad movie, good tanks. It's much easier to watch if you just fast forward through all the non tank scenes. Mute helps too.

I've decided to scrap the platoon idea, and am only building Fury itself. I've decided to build one of the real Fury tanks instead. I've chosen the US Fury, during Operation Cobra. Unfortunately, this is the only picture available. I'm not even sure if it's an M4 or an M4A3, but I think it's an M4. I think thats the armored engine cover barely visible.

It will be an M4, the small hatch M4A3's weren't issued until later in the fall of '44 (despite what some badly captioned books will try to tell you!)

I THINK I have a small-hatch M4 upper somewhere, but if not, I'll have to build it as an M4A3, since I do have that.

Most likely M4. Small hatch M4A3 served mostly as training vehicles in the US.

You're probably right. I have a spare Tamiya hull that I could cut the engine deck from as a donor, and I'd have to change the back plate of the hull, but it should be doable.

Conflicting info. Going by the registration number,
according to the chart in Son Of Sherman, it would be an M4A1, while the Sherman Minutia site says an M4. Since it's obviously not an A1, I'm going to say Sherman Minutia is right, and it's an M4.

According to SoS the order batch T-3157 ran USA 3066484 through USA 3066983
Minutia has it as USA 3065984 through USA 3066483

I suspect somebody has fat fingered the numbers and the proof reader missed it The numbers for the preceding ALCO batch of M4's (and 1 M4A2) under T-1480 ran USA 3065484 through USA 3065983, which is where I think the confusion has come from in SoS's figures?

I see what you did there - the index on the bookmark card runs 3058972-3067929 for T4154, but appendix B notes that they skipped from 3059071 at the end of June '42, to 3067630 at the start of July.

Edit: In case, like me, you were wondering where the missing numbers went, 3059072 thru 3059571 were Massey Harris Built M5A1's, 3062372 thru 3062708 were M3A3's built by American Car and Foundry, but no idea about the rest?
