8,000 dollars worth of Heng Long Tiger 1

I see that Armortek are offering the Elefant for a modest £6,128, with all options included (ambulance for the shock afterwards). Again, I'd rather have this beast than the tiger for 8000 dollars. Armortek tanks are collectors items, and probably a good investment for the future; or, the Patek Philippe of Tanks for the kids to inherit. Still, of all their models, I'd like the Pz IV or Comet most. It's not necessary to file any bits off these tanks.

I have had a look at the armortek page recently and saw the Ferdinand as well. That is an amazing looking model. The Comet is also a recent offering?

This links to the 'about us' page on the Armortek website, where you'll find a sort of family tree of Products they've made. In the Chronological order of things, the Comet sprang into life in 2010. That was long before i had the ability to fantasize about one https://www.armortek.co.uk/about-us/
It's worth spending some time looking through the forum pages there. You'll find detailed builds of most of their products by Tank-o-philes: tank fanatics with a lot less cash than they started out with.

Overpriced Tamiya?? This Heng Long is as much than 8 times more expensive than a Tamiya; but still can't get an obvious detail right. As the old saying goes: "All that glitters isn't..well, worth an eye-watering $8,000"
There seems to be a strategy here of luring people in with the promise of 'metal' over plastic. Some fall for it because tanks are made of metal, and not plastic. Even then, not all 'all metal' tanks are actually all metal. (Toro 'Pro' and so on) From what I've seen, though- and this also applies to Aeromate as well- these genuinely 100% metal tanks are not as detailed as the best ABS models. That said, at least Aeromate got the front armour plate right:

Roy, I know it's a small distinction but I think it's important to remember that Toro and Taigen do not claim to have "all metal" tanks. They Market a metal Edition but the only Tank Company I know of that claims "all metal" in 1/16 scale is Mato. The rest are either metal upgrade or metal Edition. Like I said, it's kind of splitting hairs but I think it's an important distinction.

Now if I can get the damn spell checker to stop writing Taiwan every time I put in Taigen.

Taigen/ Torro usually descibe their high end (£400-500) tanks as 'Pro Metal', or 'Metal edition'. Some buyers then make the assumption that this means 'all metal', Gary..I'd guess. Personally, I'm glad it doesn't. The ABS/ alloy mix is a good one for keeping weight down to sensible levels, and for facilitating mods and upgrades. The panzer 111 ABS/alloy combo lower hull is one of the best value upgrade units out there (I bought one not too log ago..), along with the Tiger, Panther, T34 and Sherman hulls made to the same standard. Its just such a pity that they never produced a Panzer IV hull to the same formula. The pot metal versions are not very nice, IMHO.

Count me as one of those that fell for that bit of advertisement when I bought my tank.. I didn't know better and took it for what it was worth.. I thought I was buying an all metal tank.. Little did I know...
