more of a worrie is that HUGE microwave in the back gorund .... god thouse germans were clever .. i think its a job for biggles !!!

Hi Chris,

I use a mixture of tamiya aluminium and matt black to simulate bare metal colour. If it dries too dull I rub a pencil on some sandpaper then dip a finger in the graphite dust and rub that on until i get that metallic sheen.

Thats a great looking paint scheme,really suits the jagdpanther well.
Extremely well executed too.
I am really impressed with the look of the HL jagdpanther,it looks a beast.Heng Long appear to have come a long way in the last couple of years,it may be time for me to get one and see.Seeing builds like this one inspires me to do so.Great work.

Wow!!! I'm overwhelmed by all of the responses and comments on the ambush cammo, many many thanks to all of you. 

Steve: HL have definitely upped their game. The Pz IV, Stug III and Jagdpanther are all excellent. The jagdpanther has all tools etc as seperate items and considering it's size it is an excellent runner. The rumour hotline is telling us that HL will be releasing a Panther very soon. That would make a nice opponent for your Sherman.

We had the builders in last week and as my tanks are kept in the utility room they were on show to all. Not a great deal was said about them until around about there 5th coffee break. At this point the plumber who was busy eating the last of my jaffa cakes pointed at the ambush cammo jagdpanther and said that it reminded him of some aboriginal cave art he had seen in Australia last year 

The seed had been planted. Every time I looked at the Jagdpanther Rolf Harris was sitting in the commanders hatch singing 'Sunrise, early in the morning'. I think you will all know what happens next, on with the oven cleaner, and off with the 'aboriginal' ambush cammo.

The search was on for another cammo pattern for the Jagdpanther. I finally decided on the 654 Abt 'spider web' pattern. I've never seen a jagdpanther with this cammo pattern but as it was used previously by the 654th I think I can stretch artistic license and say it might have happened. 

The whole tank was sprayed tamiya hull red again. I mixed tamiya dark yellow with a few drops of tamiya red brown and sprayed on a base coat. This colour was applied more heavily to the lower hull and engine deck than the rest of the tank. When this had dried I sprayed on a coat of tamiya dark yellow but this
time only to the upper areas of the hull and roof.

The cammo pattern is done with standard tamiya dark green thinned by about 40%. The compressor was set to a pressure of 12lbs and the airbrush adjusted so that only a very light opaque spray could be done.
When the green had dried the pattern was oversprayed again but only on the hull sides and front. I wanted it to look as though it was fading due to water run off as it got closer to the hull roof. To emphasise this effect a very light coat of tamiya buff was sparayed onto the fighting compartment roof.

Anyway here are the pics:-



The pattern is almost invisible on the fighting compartment roof.

I've left the tools in there standard positions as I have fitted shrapnel shields to the rear deck.





The next job is detailing and highlighting. More pics soon.

Oh Wow! The 'Spider Web' pattern does look brilliant John! I liked your 'aboriginal' one too but this looks even better.

LOL! I certainly know what you mean about comments and things that suggest something else and ruin your appreciation of your own work. Doesn't take much to influence a modeller's sensibilities it seems. I remember having to re-do a model because it constantly reminded me of an irritatiing song that was continuously played on the radio while I was building it! How sad is that?

Try not to think what was on the radio when you did this one though John. Please keep it as it is - its brilliant (and hide it from any bl@@dy builders in the area!)
