That was the fun part! :wtf:

Parting the hinged close out plate attached to the aft end of the upper mantel.

Great job Barry! That took some FINE cutting and filing, but the mantlet modification looks very good, and it's impressive that it's functional.

Cheers, Tom

Thanks Tom, I am not to sure how durable it is going to be in the long run. I have been looking for a hinge but so far no luck. I may have to just build my own out of brass tube and sheet.

I have discovered the down side of having relocated the main mount pivot. I did not foresee this, should have been more thoughtful!!!!

Another dilemma to solve.....anyone have a suggestion?

Awesome! As for the elevation issue, it seems a simple relocation is all you need.

Thanks Paul and Atcttge, I guess I ended up somewhere in between your suggestions.

On to the elevation servo mounting.....should prove just as challenging!

Thanks for looking in,
Barry

Recoil and elevation servos and mounting accomplished, well close.

Looking for some guidance; neither servo provides the amount of throw I need. Recoil is about .250” short. The elevation servo gives good depression but the elevation is some 15-20 degrees short of the desired amount. I know I can get a longer servo arm which will get me more displacement but in both directions. Also how do I determine what arm will fit the spline; I know they come in different "sizes".

I am testing with the servo connected directly to the receiver; when connected to a control board will I be able to increase the amount of the throw?

Thanks for looking,
Barry

Photos removed because they no reflect the final servo mounting configuration.

Barry,

If you are using Clark, the answer is no. IBU2 is much more parameters based so you might have better luck there. In fact, I think Clark's servo elevation angle is even less than what you get with directly connecting to the receiver. What radio are you using ? Do you have adjustment on it to increase the limit/range ? That would be one way, you might also want to try mapping the elevation to a pot and see if you can get more travel out of it.

If all else fails, you can always find a different angle to tighten the swing arm and see if you can get more elevation out rather than depression perhaps ?

Great build BTW.

Thanks Michael,

Radio: Turnigy 9XR Pro, I am leaning towards the ElMod PRO but have not ruled out the new IBU3.

I have moved the arm around but "no joy", I have determined that I can set the servo itself at an increased angle (raise the aft end) and obtain more elevation and less depression.
I am not sure how much effort to put into this before I get a board then find out I have to redo it.

The servo itself can be manually moved 90 degrees but will only move 60 degrees via the radio; do you know if this is the way it works?

I appreciate the help and kind words on my efforts, I am have fun!

Okay Perfect. My main radio is 9XR Pro. Which channel is the elevation servo map to right now ? Did you get your 9XR Pro from RCTA ? It has ER9X installed on it already if that's the case. If you can send me the initial screen with the servo max out then I can tell you how to adjust it for more travel.
