I had fiddled with the original gearbox as it wouldn't power the 222 on anything but the flattest surfaces. But really I had very little improvement and when a crown gear in the diff striped I needed some more serious changes as I fitted bevel gears as a replacement. Due to space available these were now 1:1 ratio not the 2:1 originally fitted I basically had a quick vehicle with no torque so the box had to go. . Fortuitously I'd acquired a Opel Blitz and the Asia Tam gearbox was very impressive so €38 euros for a box and motor. £57 quid with tax and postage (ouch) and in two days a gearbox to play with.

Because of the offset shafts there needed to be a couple of alterations to fit the box. The dog bones had fitted along a central recess as can be seen in the previous picture. Having played about a bit the new box fitted into the bottom tray that fits into the Hull bottom, because it's been a bit of trial and error the bones aren't as balanced as I'd like but they are the originals cut and superglue into brass tube. Once I'm happy it all works I'll measure them up and trawl the net for some new ones...

So the big changes

To accommodate the offset dog bone some of the Hull had to be ground out. (no big chore). The bigger change is the steering system

You can just see I've had to swap the sides of the pivot point for the steering as the dog bar goes straight across it. The old one cut out and a new support tube fitted held in with milliput

Blooming heck Nick...are you like me and wonder why the manufacturers don't build their own models and make them run properly before they sell them??

One jewellery box pcb protector. I improved the arrangement of the interior. So there's a little more space
