I enjoy my Taigen tiger with Taigen radio whilst I would love an ibu I won't be getting one on grounds of cost. So I'm happy with the set up I have for now also there's the point that you get a radio with every tank you buy new so the rebinding every time you change tanks is for the most part unnecessary.
I'm sure I'm not the only one on here facing job uncertainty in the near future in my case due to health problems.
I'm not sure telling newbies there radios are rubbish and they need to spend up to £200 more on equipment to get the most out of there tanks is helpful it might even put people off buying in the first place.

Saying that I've noticed the great deal tankbear is running on a ibu/radio combo and its good to see a dealer putting him self out to give a good deal.

Thought I'd better explain myself better I have nothing against people upgrading there electronics quite the opposite in fact if I had the money I'd do it myself. What I'm against is the attitude that Taigen/torro/heng long electrics are rubbish and need replacing immediately I feel this could be off putting for people new to the hobby. I'm not out to upset people if you have upgraded I'm happy for you.

Ed, it is not my intention to annoy you or anyone else on this Forum,
But even you admit that a combination of IBU2/CLARK boards and a decent multi-channel digital pre-programmable transmitter/receiver is better than HENG LONG/TORRO/TAIGEN's own offering even though they come with the Tank,
And let us be totally clear, no one spends £60 + for a plastic and metal (as marketed by HENG LONG "TOY") Tank unless they can afford it.
It is definitely an indulgence, a luxury and most wives view it in exactly those words,
This Forum caters for all levels of hobbyist and when you think about how much a Tank, even the cheapest eventually costs when it is finished, it is a lot closer to the total price of a TAMIYA Tiger 1 than a HENG LONG Panzer 111,
I apologise unreservedly if I have annoyed you, but this thread was about proportional smokers and HENG LONG/TAIGEN/TORRO have never offered one as part of the basic product, it was always an extra cost option, whereas any non proportional smoker becomes proportional when plugged into a CLARK (with a minor wiring modification) or an IBU2 and that is the point that I and Kiaser were both making. shaun
I think I am about to upset someone :haha:

Thank you Gentlemen, Kaiser your presentation on the options is very impressive, thanks for taking the time.
Yes, at some point sound is on the list of changes. Also wish to do a recoiling bb barrel. The changes I make now hopefully will benefit other changes down the road.
Soooo where should I tap in at for direct smoker power and can it build up before fan kicks in?
does this sound correct... smoker hooked up down stream of tank on/off switch. wait a couple of minutes then hit the tank start up on the transmitter. In theory smoke would belch.(fan attached to board) But then again, seems there is a delay through the board before fan (smoker as it is now) starts.

Where do I buy little connectors , splicers etc. in US? Recommendations on a decently priced/quality charger for nimh and lipo? Now I will digest all this great new info and see where the wallet takes me!

O'Neal Your control board whether it is a HENG LONG/TAIGEN/TORRO/CLARK or IBU2 has a Smoker socket and that is where you plug your TARR into,
If it is an IBU2 control board that is all you need do and you will have a fully proportional smoker,
All the others will need you to use the HENG LONG/TAIGEN/TORRO smoker switch with the TARR smoker,(The switch usually found in the floor of the tank or sometimes underneath, RED not White that's the volume control!!!)
The CLARK control board has a socket for the HENG LONG smoker switch located beside the smoker socket. I hope that helps. shaun

The 2.4 setup in the Taigen tanks isn't bad at all by any means and I was reluctant about upgrading the electronics but I gotta tell you once I put an IBU2 in and got it set up I love it! I wish it were smaller cause its foot print is twice that of the Taigen 2.4 setup. After that my TARR markII smoker kicked butt! I never messed with the smoke output settings as whatever it is now is great! I love the amount of smoke and the fact it's proportional is really great!

Also upgraded to high torque motors with the 4.1 hardened gearboxes and with all metal running gear this thing lives up to the name TANK!

I agree with you Jack about the IBU2 footprint, before, I would lay the Battery on its back but since the New board went in I have cut another slot for the battery strap which means the battery (a 5500 LI-PO) is now on its side, and as I have used Velcro to hold the speakers. the smoker the receiver and the battery all I needed to ensure everything was properly secured was to cable tie all the wires, which mean nothing gets snagged. shaun

I tried to put the battery on its side but it interferes with the BB gun in the turret so I had to lay it flat. Also had to re-work the amp card to make it fit. The speakers I'm running the Mato speakers, 2 for the engine sounds mounted under the radiator grills and 2 for the gun sounds inside the turret.

I'm not denying its better far from it all I'm saying is you can get by without it as for nobody buys a tank unless they can afford it.... I did it took six months of saving plus Xmas and birthday money to get my first and only tank! And i have improved it recently with 5-1 gearboxes ( a combined fathers day present from the wife and two sons) my next tank will be the same a combined birthday Xmas present I am trying not to come off as bitter all I'm saying is that if I had read stuff like this before I bought mine I might of thought again and asked for slippers and cigars instead.

For a moment I wondered why your battery was being fouled by the "BB" in the Turret and then I read on,
TWO LONG MATO speakers and Two speakers in the Turret!!! :haha: :haha:
When I cut another slot in the floor for the battery strap this meant the battery was now against the side of the Hull interior which allows plenty of space for my "BB" but I am using the "Visaton speakers" as supplied by IAN with the sound board and one is positioned where the original speaker was and the other opposite,
I removed the lugs where the speaker was screwed in and replaced them with VELCRO which holds the speakers in place but keeps them lower down on the Tank internal side fenders and no speakers in the turret!
It works for me but it is quite tight in there. shaun
