"The Germans scored a direct hit on an M10 tank destroyer, setting it alight, forcing the crew to abandon it.[66] Murphy ordered his men to retreat to positions in the woods, remaining alone at his post shooting his M1 carbine and directing artillery fire via his field telephone while the Germans aimed fire directly at his position.[67] Murphy mounted the abandoned, burning tank destroyer and began firing its .50 caliber machine gun at the advancing Germans, killing a squad crawling through a ditch towards him.[68] For an hour, Murphy stood on the tank destroyer returning German fire from foot soldiers and advancing tanks, killing or wounding 50 Germans. He sustained a leg wound during his stand, and stopped only after he ran out of ammunition.[66] Murphy rejoined his men, disregarding his own wound, and led them back to repel the Germans. He insisted on remaining with his men while his wounds were treated.[66] For his actions that day he was awarded the Medal of Honor.[69]"

Audie Murphy MOH citation. Sometimes truth is better than fiction. ;)

That sounds like it would've made a much better film Cruiser. There are so many real life amazing acts of courage and bravery recorded it seemed a shame they had to invent something so ridiculous for the finale of the film. It almost felt disrespectful to the earlier good work they'd laid down.

For the record I'd love to see the BBC, Hollywood or anyone produce a film or TV series with a decent budget and production values depicting British, Canadian, Polish, Indian, NewZelanders, Aussies, French and all the other myriad of nations that fought against the Axis forces. My preference would be a film or TV depiction of Stephen Ambrose Pegasus Bridge, made in the style of Band of Brothers.

A remake of BATTLE OF BRITAIN would be good....they had a no. of countries represented in that movie
It would be good with a cast of No name actors....stuff like this Fury... when they recruit Name actors..there's generally a reason... weak story ...something...reason I wasn't very hepped up about it from the get go....Band of Brothers was excellent..no name actors to muck up the direction of the movie...when you get someone like Brad Pitt... who might want certain angles used more than others ..or something in the script changed...it happens... other wise the movie is marred with a stigma of production issues

Battle of Britain would be great to see with modern CGI, just as long as the guys that made Redtails arent involved! Peter Jackson is suppose to be remaking The Dambusters once he's finished molesting hobbits & dwarfs, although the last time I looked in to that most of the internet chatter concerned what they would call the dog!

Dambusters would take a whole lot of work...maybe a total rewrite ...BATTLE OF BRITAIN would be good for a remake ... there were some doldrums but that could easily be done over
Think it would be difficult to do a movie with many different allied factions where there is ground battles...historically there was just to much political grandstanding from all parties involved...so I don't really see that happening ...with a good story ...in the near future

As a Brit i am fully aware of the Hollywoodisation of WW2 , however I am not going to knock Fury, Yes there are some questionable parts and the ending is ridiculous but I really enjoyed it, its got fantastic battle scenes, effects and a real Tiger. I actually cant stop talking about it. I would love to see more films such as this as i think it can only be a positive and helps to maintain interest in the Conflict.

My grandfather in WWI when he was 16 received his 1st purple heart when his buddy was blown up next to him, his buddy turned into shrapnel and sent my grandfather to the hospital. Purple heart #2 came when he was shot 7 times by Germans pulling a wounded friend to safety, back to the hospital. Purple heart #3 mustard gas in the trench was NASTY STUFF, back to the hospital. Purple heart #4 another mustard gas shell landed next to him in the trench but did not explode on impact rather it started to spew the gas, without regard for his own safety he grabbed the shell and ran away from his men while it pumped out its gas. He reached an area where he could safely get rid of it and collapsed. He awoke in a French hospital blind and had all of his skin burned off in the hospital he was visited by the president of France and awarded with the Croix de Guerre with bronze star. He returned home blind and still suffering from his wounds, finally he regained his sight and married my grandmother. He then went back to France in WWII and quickly racked up another 3 purple hearts at which time he was sent home by the ARMY. He volunteered to go to Korea however the ARMY said thanks but we have plenty of younger guys who'd like to try to get some medals so instead he served as a captain in the Minute Men, ARMY reserve in charge of training for most of the east coast.

My grandfathers name was Benjamin Franklin Bowles, served in both world wars and in between serving became the first U.S. Marshal in West Virginia to use a car to patrol.

Sadly all of his medals, uniforms, pictures, weapons, damn near everything to do with him was sold by my MORON of an aunt at flee markets! I can't even find a pic of him anymore
