TANKER242 is right about the expense, but there are a couple of points I should like to make,1/ the upgrades you buy you can ration how much you will spend per month whereas you buy a TAMIYA you have to find a hatfull of cash just to get a box of bits that have to be assembled,2/You buy a HENG LONG and then after a month you wonder why? Unlike the outlay for a TAMIYA you are only out of pocket for less than a £100 so your partner will still speak to you and you won't have to avoid the bank manager, and if you are enjoying the build you will end up with a lot of new skills for a modest outlay, thereby making a more expensive Tank less of a chancy venture should you want to further expand your armoury. shaun

alpha & jarndice are bouth right but as alpha said I enjoy the build , that's why I went the upgrade way ,but not to mad on the upgrades ,the choice on how far you go is totally up to you ,no one can tell you how far to go ,the choice is yours ,tanker 242

If you are in the price bracket, the taigen is a very good tank if not better.. and to me would be just as good as the Tamiya that costs twice as much! On the Taigen you get metal parts, metal tracks and so on you don't get with the Tamiya. If you do get the Taigen the only must-have option - 2.4 Ghz radio. I should change my username to "2.4Ghz" because I am always on about these radios and how much better they are-because they are! They are bullet proof so long as you don't drop the Tx.

If you buy the Taigen there is plenty enough stuff to assemble on it. Similar to the Heng long, kind of, T-34 I just bought, there is so much stuff to put together (fuel tanks, rails, hooks, stickers) it feels close enough to a kit tank for me.

With the Taigen, parts are cheaper, the advantage of the Tamiya is the detail's a bit better. They are said to run better. Do they run better enough to justify the cost, I don't know. Run an R/C tank long enough it is going to need something done to it or bought for it with either brand.

My main choice in the end, as always, comes down to initial budget, I fully intend on spending far more than is sensible on upgrades, and learning the skills.

I have had a good look around this forum and am already somewhat addicted to pictures of tanks! went to a small local model fair at weekend and bought what I believe will be the first of many WW2 tank reference books.
