But you have been telling us all about the bad plastics and poor gears when its actually the polar opposite. You're being told this by people who own them when you yourself do not. And prices, apart from my leo 2, I've never paid more than £450 for a Tamiya. My Taigan Tiger cost about that and still doesn't have the intrinsic quality of materials. Even at the worst exchange rate in the last 10 years, that doesn't come anywhere near the prices you mention.

And no, I'm not biased, however I own or have owned most of the 1:16 Tigers on the market so I can say precisely what is good and bad about them. That means I can be objective, if I think the Tamiya is the best value and best tank, that's because I have a well informed point of reference. That isn't bias.

Enough already Bill...I did say Tamiya is his best choice....the other brands didn't come in through me...go check for yourself... I just responded..just like you could have.... if it helps...and I think it does when someone is shelling out their dollars...then it helps....it's SSGT's decision...not sure why you are trying to sell me on anything ... but I have to say to that is...I'm not in the Market..

and once again...ALL BRANDS HAVE FLAWS...THEY ALL NEED TWEEKS...that will always be the bottom line for me

ALPHA you have identified one half of the problem, "all tanks and makers have their problems" the other half is the difference between people and their attitude to this hobby, we have the laid back, who really arn't too bothered about minor failings and then there are the perfectionists and somewhere inbetween sit the rest of us, It is the strength of this Forum and long may it continue. shaun

Thats why in my original reply I made sure to mention what I know first hand and what I've only read about here.

My Heng Long Tiger was CRAP before I spent double its purchase price on Taigen parts to fix it, now it runs like a champ. Alpha and others have said I must have gotten a lemon and I have no reason to doubt them but at the same time I'm leery of buying another Heng Long tank, especially a Tiger I. Come Christmas time since I was able to get a HELL of a deal on my Taigen King Tiger I'm most likely going to get an M4 (Sherman) just because but I have to figure out from whom to purchase it.

I've only been playing with these things for a few months so my knowledge is greatly limited when compared with some of experts who are posting here. (Yes I consider some of you experts that wasn't sarcasm) That said I in no way meant to offend anyone with my any of my statements as it seems some feathers have been ruffled since I made my original post and I hope I'm not the cause of any discord here as it was NEVER my intention.

As you can see, we are naturally passionate about our favorite manufacturers. ;o) There is a lot of good advice in the replies up above. The base for you here is going to be how to proceed. As was said, it will fall to how you feel about getting whatever tank that you purchase fit into the vision that you saw that attracted you to RC Tanks in the first place. Follow that vision, spend what you can afford and mod which ever one you buy a little or a lot til' it fits what you saw in your mind's eye. Then, enjoy!, enjoy some more and repeat as needed. ;o) As for my 'favorite' brand, I have them all, Heng Long, Mato, Taigen and Tamiya. ( The Tamiya is a little 1/35 RC Tiger 1 that I have had for almost ten years. I love it dearly and it's only flaw has been that the rubber tracks it came with hardened so I need to source a new set or go with some Spade Ace metal ones for it ) My favorite, I guess is the one that I build out of the best features of all of the lot. That's most of them for me. Again, Sir, buy what you want and enjoy! It could not be simpler.

The difference is, you're giving bad advice about something you have no experience of. For the OP Tamiya probably isn't the best choice, neither is the Mato. However I'm not going to make stuff up about the choices to get my point across, which is the difference between us. That and actually owning some of them.
