Thanks for the feedback, I have repaired the damage on the outside, it just knocked off some track links from the outside, put them back on and you can't see any damage, it's just the recoil unit that's needed replacing. I have stuck on the tools and tow cables, it's nearly done now. Will put some more pics up.

Anyone got any more ideas on the recoil unit issue? Totally lost with it!

Hi Dave,

I wish I could supply an easy answer. The Taigen recoil unit can be a nightmare - I should know, because I am now on my third.

However, I notice that you have the Taigen turret with recoil already fitted. When you ordered a replacement from WDM did you get the stand-alone recoil unit? Did it have the same metal base plate fitted as the one in your tank? I only ask because the wiring for the newer recoil units is slightly different from the older ones that came with the larger base plate to fit the Heng Long turret.

It may be that you should order a spare turret with the recoil fitted - just like the one you already had - then simply transplant the recoil unit from the new turret into yours. This is what I did and it solved my recoil issues straight away.

If you look on my Normandy Tiger blog you will see I posted on this very recently.

Regards, Tanks

testers model master steel enamel is great for getting the look of unpainted steel or panted surfaces that have had the paint worn through.

Thanks for that tanks, yes it had the different base plate. I will invest in the turret in a few weeks I think. Shame about the current recoil unit but cest la vie, it just acts really strangely. Won't be too hard to swap it over. Good advice there, cheers.

Thanks for the tip on the testers steel enamel as well greengiant, will have to check it out

Certainly have some updates Mr Bix, hope things have improved for you at the moment, read on your ZU-Fuss build that things have been tough for you lately.

Some pics on progress below, got the tools, cables and jack on as well. Got the aerial to put on yet and the AA mount and MG is on its way. the clamps for the cables need adding and the track tow cable needs adding back on then dare i say it, its finished?!

Until i find the next bit to add to it..... :haha:

I like your build mate I'm doing something similar, I just noticed the nice paint job looks a bit darker towards the end of your threads. Did you seal the paint work????

Lol, yeah I am rapidly finding out that there is always the 'next bit' to add!! :) :) :) Fire extinguisher, jack handle, ariel , periscope glass, its all in the pipeline! Looking forwards to it

So I added some filters and did some fading with oils and this did darken it up a bit, I sealed it with tamiya clear and that dfid bring it to life a bit. Various washes put the dirt onto it. Hope that helps.

I am looking at the IBU board for her, went to the MAD meet last month, my first time, some of the stuff up there was fantastic and i learnt very rapidly that mine just doesnt move right. Anyone got any advice on the board to fit? I seem to remember reading somewhere that some of the vendors that sell them go to the MAD meet, anyone know if this is right. My memory clouds over after a while!! Are they easy to setup etc?

Cheers everyone

Dave

Well Mr Gillaspy, things are much more betterer, just like your Tiger mate
Nice filtering on the paint. Taken the edge off the pattern & really added character.
It's a good'un
