Alpha,
I thought about all the holes that would be left after removing the Mato over sized hull bits and decided to just trim them off level, sand and redrill new mount holes when it comes time to add the Tamiya sprue pieces. That's just for me tho', I know that you build your stuff out of metal to fit existing mountings. Thanks for taking the time to document this build. ;o)
regards,
Painless

Essentially that's what I did Painless... some were loose .. so they left holes...I took off everything.. tools the track racks in the back.. the lift rings etc.....the front lift rings have stubs left.. artificial mounts ... sanded those smooth as I will probably follow the contour of the Heng Long lift ring which is a tighter loop.. I will use the front hole for the reference mounting the rear will be eye balled ;)
As far as the light guards go ...yeah ...I'm going to do it the same as I did on the previous Sherman.. as I still have some of that tubing left...can't really use it for anything else as it kinks when you bend it for lift rings...flattening them out and making guards will probably get rid of what I have left..so definitely a win win situation :D

Carpe Diem my friend..have a safe and thoroughly enjoyable 2nd Honeymoon

Hey Alpha,
Nice job on those skirts and that mantle. Are those skirts from a Pershing? Are you running this one as an IR or BB? I have contemplated a Sherman for conversion to IR. Just to have a balance of forces here at the household. :)

Have a great weekend,
Pale.

Hey Pale... thanks much.... I'm going to keep this one bb for now...if I can find a nice recoil unit I might change it out later... Kind of he reason I sleeved the barrel..Yes those are Pershing skirts... Mike1 turned me on to them... at first I was going to just transfer the ones from my Heng Long....but for some reason the profile wasn't as well matched as the Tamiya skirts...I'm not sure if you noticed or not... but they worked best backwards...the only parts I ended up using from the Heng Long skirts are the rounded top of the fender.. and part of the back corner...which were also inverted so it would provide the inner corner that folds into the engine access area...turned out to be quite the challenge...

You should definitely get a Sherman for yourself... since you are getting so good at the electricals... conversion to IR should be a breeze for you... the only problem would be which variant you want to do lol.... these Shermans... they are really hard to pin down  ........... :haha:

If you do choose to do one... see if you can locate the book by J.P. Hunnicutt SHERMAN a history of the medium tank...it is packed with loads of info and photos...it really helped in configuring the skirts..Mike1 also lent me his copy ...I can't thank him enough

Have a good one Pale ...thanks again for the kind words

PS if at all possible ...I would advise staying away from the Mato..from a distance it's a nice model... but once you get down and dirty with it... you will find it has many flaws ...I'm slowly finding this merger between the two brands might turn out to be more challenging than the merger of the FoV hull and the Heng Long chassis

Did you ever do one with skirts Canned? man it's tough...not to mention trying to meld the two brands together... the nice thing is she is coming together... the process is slow... but pretty sure it'll get done

Carpe Diem Lord Canned

What I finished last evening.... unfortunately...neither the Heng Long or the Mato transmission covers did a good job ...so I had no choice but to merge the two...taking the upper portion of the Mato... and the lower from the Heng long....along with this solution...also found the best way to do it was to glue everything to the upper hull.. and take my chances later :haha:

I also enclosed the inner wells of the skirts ...which helps reinforce the entire structure... it is very solid

Now the work will begin on the rear bulkhead
