Hi MK1 Nut,
This is a great looking tank that you have made here.

Please can I ask,
Did you design and make the track rollers /wheels ?
How were the tracks made and what material was used for them ?

Oops sorry for not replying this before earlier. x

The track, gears and rollers are all designed by me on Sketchup and then printed in ABS on my Brother's MakerBot 3D Printer. I use Google's Sketchup because I don't get on with the 3D side of my proper CAD program.
The ability to print out parts and try them before getting them made in metal has been a key part in this model happening. I don't think I would have attempted it without the printer.

The track links aren't strong enough to be used, but they do go round and show my gears and track all mesh properly, which was a major relief.

Hi Guys,

Some more fiddly bits have arrived and managed to get a few of them on the model before the show on yesterday. I went to the Model Show at the Fleet Air Arm Museum and talked tanks all day.

The photos aren't brilliant, so I will try and get some of my friends. I should get the rest of the parts on this week and will try to get some photos up for you to look at.

Sorry for not adding to this for a while, the project progresses in stops and starts, so I just forget to show how the model is looking. I think part of it is it stops me thinking about how much there is still to do.

Back again!

Recently reached a major turning point in the build... I have begun the Track at last!
Ok there's probably a months work still to go, but at the end of it there should be my first chance of seeing the model move. The list of things to do are still quite long, that list now is at least starting to shrink at last.

The track you see riveted up in the photo are not the final ones, I had to tweak the track plates a little and now all the rivet heads sit nice and level.

The links are being thread locked as we'll as riveted, this is not just to strengthen the join, but also to stop rust forming between the two metals.

First time I've seen this thread and to say I'm impressed is an understatement beautiful build and as they say in Essex I'm well jel.

That model is not only beautiful but an amazing piece of engineering, the thought, planning, design, prototyping, and final execution is just breathtaking! Very very well done! Alwyn
