Tiger,
I had a 1/72nd type VIIIC U boat which is big and a 1/72nd Gato class US sub which is bloody HUGE! They were £50 a piece but were on offer before crimble at £30 a head at a site called
www.anticsonline.co.uk so I dropped a couple of subtle hints to the boss who duly bought them. I think they may have reverted back to thier old price now though I think.

Tony (It sounded a bit gay calling you Tiger)
just checked that website. If you're interested the U boat is still on offer at £30. The Gato is "on offer" at £40 with an MRP of £70 now. I've gone the whole hog (as its not my usual stuff) and bought the photo etched add ons for both subs from white ensign models too. Haven't got round to building them yet though.
I'm thinking of letting the boxes they came in to a young married couple, make a good first time home for someone.
Abo.

thanks for that abo, now i'll have to buy the mrs a big bunch of flowers, so i can buy that u-boat and not feel to guilty

,the photo etched sets you bought, you will have loads of fun with them, some of the bits are really small, but the detail is something else, i bought a set for the 1/350 bismarck i made, from the same people(WEM) thier service is tops, and the PE set is second to none. are you going to do build reports on here?, i hope so, it would be interesting to follow
Tony

Yeah thanks Abo, i've been eyeing that U Boat for ages and just i couldnt turn it down at the price... or the 1/72 Vosper & 1/72 PT boat ::) As if the tanks werent expensive enough and took up all my spare time...
Ah well its my birthday tomorrow so its my present to myself
Now i wonder how easy it would be to get that U Boat R/c's up so it'd just run on the surface....hmmmm

Depends Tony, If I make a good job of it possibly, if I make a pigs ear of it probably not.
As regards R/C ing it, I think I saw something on the site that shall not be named in thier boat section saying that some members had defo done a surface runner and I'm sure someone had made a diver too. They're that big there's loads of room for conversion, the U boat is over 3 feet long and the Gato I think is 4 feet 4"!!!!

Don't wish to turn this into a nautical build but I bought the 1/72nd Vosper and rescue launch as well, together with the "schnellboot" plus PE in 1/72nd, god knows when I will get round to building them, got a 1/16th Eduard schwimwagon to build first, then the tanks............ I'm retired and still don't have the time.
That PT boat brings back a few good memories, had a model of the PT109 commanded by John F Kennedy as a kit for Christmas 1968, ahhhh, the olden days.

I was seriously thinking about R/cing the Italieri 1/35 PT Boat last year but finally came to my senses (its hard enough finding somewhere to run our tanks ::))
Anyway, what about those Tamiya prices eh? Its almost enought o make you take up knitting :-\
