Hi Darren,

Heres the website for Clark Models http://www.clark-model.com/eng/index_e.html which gives more information. The Turnigy 9x is listed as working ok with the TK series boards so you should be fine.

Programming is dead easy (well if you have IR) basically put a jumper lead across 2 pins switch on and use a sony remote control point at IR receiver on tank, when done switch off remove jumper and it's all done (all this is on the website) but if you haven't all the IR it will be fine with the default settings (again listed on the website).

Now regarding the airsoft, it should work, but when I tried a Heng Long recoil (wired same as the airsoft) it didn't power it but this was one of the first batch of TK20 boards since then there has been a software update so I guess it has been fixed now but I haven't tried as I ended up fitting the servo to do the recoil.

Yeah I do love the sounds of the TK series boards, plus the output is very loud. Plus according to the Clark website a Bulldog sound version will be available from 31st December. Clark will probably upload a video of it soon so should be able to listen to it.

The barrel on the Bulldog is non recoiling. The track recoil does that and I want to eliminate that. I also noticed that the rear LED's are soldered directly to the RX18. I will probably need to add a plug to that for the new board. I just don't want to spend a bunch of money on stuff that will not work together. Can't believe I've only been tanking a week! LOL

Here's my goal Ian - All I am trying to do is bring the tank electronics up to hobby grade the easiest way possible. Plug and play more or less. My tank is non IR, airsoft only. Any sugestions on the equipment you would use would greatly be appreciated. Looking to spend around 250.00-ish. Thanks a ton Ian -

It is difficult to recommend an upgrade option as there is so many options available and what suits one person might not be for you. I've upgraded four of my tanks to the Clark TK series so I'm a bit biased to that system, but I also run two other systems (DBC3 and RC2HL). So if you can wait why not for now replace the RX18 to get your tank up and running. Then gives you time to research other systems rather than jumping for one now.

I'll post a summary of the option available to help.

As you notice a lot of the system actually still use the HL RX18 as it actually is quite good as a controller and then enhance the bad bits.

Saw a post were guys are putting 5v 40mm fans on RX18. Where are they plugging them in at? Couldn't quite see in the photos..Cooling is a good thing...

Just hard wire it into the power lead before it plugs into the RX18, that way when you switch tank off it will also stop fan. TBH though I think it is a waste of time specially on a pretty standard tank, if your worried just leave the plastic lid off the RX18 for extra air cooling.

I've a metal Tiger which weighs 6.5kg and is running 480 speed motors (rated at 5A running current) and not damaged the RX18 through overheating. In fact only time I have damaged a RX18 is when a wire came loose and shorted out which stopped the turret turning motor from working. Another time got a wired crossed and the RX18 started pouring out smoke but it still worked even after that. Even run a couple with 9.6v battery packs and it takes it no problem.
