Sorry I didn't get back earlier, the small tyres are a perfect fit for a 1/16 Willys Jeep I've been working on so I had to buy them, I bought the larger ones just in case they would fit the HL trucks std wheels & if they won't I can always 3D print a set of wheels to suit.
The truck itself is so cheap that it makes loads of sense to have 1 or 2 for spares.
My plan of attack is to convert the truck into a V2 transporter, I've made the rocket & I'm just starting the trailer.

Oh yeah, I plan to use the Estes V2 and I'm trying to figure out a way to make it so that I can actually launch the V2.

Hi Max,
You should be fine using either of the battery packs in either of the trucks, I think the difference in the voltage is just due to the amount of cells in each pack ie, 4 cell and 5 cell, don't know why they would manufacture different battery packs though, that's a bit of a strange one

Motors tend to be 3v or 6v. Both have a tolerance of the voltage they can handle.
The question is whether one truck comes with a 3v motor and the other with a 6v one. My guess is that they both come with 6v ones. They may have shipped with 4.8v batteries to keep the power down, and reduce transmission stress. Now maybe they realise that it can handle 6v quite happily?
Are they both WPL trucks? If the 6v one is an HL Truck it might shed some light on the difference?

Both my H/L trucks came with 6v battery packs Rob, as you say it will be interesting to see if the wpl trucks shipped with the 4.8v packs
Do you think that the 450mah lipo batteries which are 7.4v be fine with the motors ?

The upgraded esc takes care of that, it sends the power to the motors depending on the throttle. The one in the video I posted runs just fine with that setup. What we did discover was that the plastic driveshafts flex when going over bumps and that causes the sliding rods to uncouple. When the metal upgrade parts arrive it will/should overcome that problem.

I was never worried about the motors, I know they won't get hurt by that increase, it was the mother boards that concerned me. If the 6 volt trucks have any components there that are different it could be a problem. Motherboards tend to be a lot more sensitive to voltage changes than brushed electric motors.
But, brave soul that I am, I simply popped the 6 volt bat into the 4.8 volt truck and everything works fine. It might be a bit faster at top speed on a full charge, but that's the only difference I noticed, and didn't see a wisp of the magic smoke, thank the RC Gods.
