Hi Herman and ALPHA, Somewhere I saw decal checker plate, I cannot remember where, but that has to be the best way of hiding any damage when removing moulded on tools, of course ABER make checker plate in PE but it looks a bit obvious if you get my meaning. Hey Shaun... yeah I remember reading about those decals .... just can't see how they work... would it be you sand the panel totally smooth then apply.... I know there is plasticard diamond plate...but that adds thickness...not sure I want to do that
Have a set of these from a time long ago lol



They do this to wood... never tried them on plastic though

Ive done that to wood, years ago, but Im not really that hung up on the tread plate being a show stopper due to the fact that these support vehicles had already been to the moon & back before they got the turrets removed for carting ammo & a few spares.

I will transfer all this into a stand alone build topic, R & D it sort of is !

Yeah me too.... and only recently the Checkering tool set came to mind.... going to do a couple mods to my stug... so a lot of the tools need to be removed.... the diamond plate is a concern for me... I hope they work well on plastic

Got my 'you-beaut' tracks & set about them like a kid with a stolen playboy magazine.
Did the dry run over the running gear to gauge the length only to find the drive sprockets were not so 'you-beaut'
The new staunch tracks were to wide across the drive slots to fit the drive sprockets.
I shall write a sternly worded letter to Mr Spacely !!!!

Turned the thing on, put the transmitter on the floor, used my left foot on the 'throttle' and give-a.
Hit the inside of the sprocket faces with a file while keeping them rotating.
It took a while, but the tracks now fit snuggly over the drive teeth.
One side seems to require one more link than the other, where the metal tracks it came with were the same length.
I will fit them after weathering the wheels & test for sag & derailling.

Thanks for the links Mr Blimp & Mr Tanks, its really staggering what is out there for all forms of modelling.
Curiously absent though is any tangible link to bloody dolls house supplies

Trying find quiet sufficient time to finish off now is tough with the newborn in the house, tired is a word !!
Right now after a particularly long night of tag-bitching with the 2 year old & the new one, I can barely figure out if I need a sh#t or a haircut

An American company which I havn't used, I use a company on E-BAY only because I found out after my first order that it is headquartered in my town! What I have discovered is that these company's are a good source of hinges and slide bolts and other bits and pieces useful when working in PE although often over priced. Isn't family life fun? especially when the little wonders grow up and shove off!!!! shaun

Shove off ??!!...............oh, yeah, empty nest. I did the maths :
I will be able to apply & collect my superanuation fund(retirement) for 3 months before the last daughter just born is deciding on where to go for ":schoolies week" (kind of a drunken graduation party)
That is assuming I exceed the natural life expectancy for a white-middle class- hetro male- non smoker living in Australia

If only I could find a way of making a living of having them eh !

Got a canister of snow material from a well hidden RC and hobby shop the other day.
It really has a great texture & is easy to work with. Used white glue to secure this stuff on the roadwheels as an experiment.
looks like I will need to build layers to get the clumping effect, but the stuff is really good.

Pics of the stuff setting on the roadwheels are a look from a Panzer Wrecks book !!
A little seems to go a long way.
I can see how this stuff is going to be a real asset to the finished product, more of a static model finisher, but still very good for the right effect on a mobile unit. And the size of the container & ease of application means I can renew it as required.
