interesting use of floor polish. Will try on a test model. Also good to read about use of pastells. Was'nt sure about sealing them. Now I want to paint somthing panzer grey.

John, this was the first post and the beginning of this section. But the older forum had some problems and many of the pictures were lost. The floor polish works very well to seal paint and decals. You can weather after the floor polish and the add some more. But the varnish really makes the difference, it is amazing the finish that the varnish will change. Absolutely flat/matte finish. After the polish the tank will be very shinny, the second coat of varnish and it completely changes the appearance.

I am working on my Jagdpanther tomorrow,I.m at the point of adding the floor polish in three coats which need to dry completely between coats, you can also add pastel coloring between the floor polish coats. The after the polish has dried(24hrs) then the varnish coats can be applied,but the varnish must have at least 24 hours between coats and 48 would be better, as the varnish dries the coloring will change. PS Darby's carries the RONSEAL ULTRA TOUGH MATTCOAT VARNISH, the 250ml can has lasted through several tanks, but it is best to poor it into a glass Jar with a sealed top, other wise it will dry in the can and leave a film that will clog the airbrush.

I have started Panzer 111 build. Will be quite a while before I start painting it. I think it will be Kursk camo. Would like to add side skirts but am searching for details of mounts. Will read this full post again and search for the materials. What did you use to clean airbrush after floor polish and matt varnish.

John at Kursk their were many tanks in Gray as they were not repainted in the field as soon as the new color orders were issued, Grossdeutschland s Tigers all Gray at Kursk as were many of the older Tanks and prime movers and staff cars. It is the turning point for the German Army and for color changes. The Grossdeutschland 13th company was their one armor group of Tigers, which was increased to three regiments after Kursk,but other units were fighting in Gray as well. Just a side note, and a relevant point as Kursk was the battle of changes. Never again would Germany field as many Tanks in the East at one time.

Don/t mean to lecture here just that I have read so many books on Grossdeutschland and Kursk was a battle where they proved their worth, no other army division received the best equipment as did Grossdeutschland.
Have you decided on a unit? Would be interested in your choice. Grossdeutschland also had 10 Pzkpfw III's during this period,these came from #3 company Panzer Regiment 203. The unit history may give you some photos to model your P111 by. Hope this helps somewhat in your build.

There seems to be plenty of information about GD organization. I am not too fussy about keeping my tanks within a particular period or regiment. I hope not to end up with too many of these vehicles. I would like to get one of the Armortek 1/6 tanks so it's good to get some practice with 1/16. Are you putting up posts on your current project. I will have a look and follow progress. I have started posting on Panzer 111. It is interesting to get info on GD as I have a flames of war Panzerregiment that needs a theme.

Nictank, this is the original Painting and Weathering thread. The other members OZ and Steiner have moved on and rarely post.

The camera distorts the coloring on my Tiger, and at the time of this thread I had a camera that was less functional. I will post a few pictures to demonstrate.

Oz was in my opinion one of the most helpful and method sharing AFV modellers out there. Sadly he seems to no longer post or be active on this forum.
