Re: "PRODUCTION" TURRET KING TIGER
It's hard to say to be honest what would have happened. It's pretty much all conjecture other than the known facts published by Jentz and Doyle. It's possible the E50 or E75 could have been planned to go into production at Kassel since they were both due to be built in the same place and they're both essentially Tiger IIs but one has thicker armour and one has thinner armour and both were due to use the same turret and mechanical components. But neither got past the design stage so any plan to actually build them was probably at least a year off.

You know Herman...like Painless said...this one looks so good it's almost ashamed to beat her up...
Got on to the tools. Used the serated edge on a swiss army knife to score the wood grain into the handles. Use oil paint raw sienna as the base coat. Put on pretty thick so as to use the brush to create texture. Then a dry brushed coat of burnt sienna to bring out the surface. Seemed to work.
Match painted the mounting brackets to the hull & used gun metal base with a flat black dry brush cover on the tool heads.
Very light dry brush with buff to match the dusting & thats all.
Did the fire extinguisher in an acrylic yellow base with a desert yellow cover & a dry brush buff over top.
Looked at my Aber MG with remorse as I got out the saw![]()
Had to shorten it to fit into the ball mount.
Opened the hole in the ball slightly by spinning the drill in my fingers, then heated the end of the Aber MG with my burner.
Melted it into place. Jobs on.
Gun metal base, but I just cant bear to cover such a nice accessory with the green like it would have been.
The fire ash that got into my clear coat was picked out by blade & the red primer shows up nicely.........another accidental bonus.
Every primer 'chip' you see is a bright-white ash spot removed.

All those closeup shots really show your great work off Herman, nice, very nice.
What's that stuff you stick the tools to while painting them?

Its blue tak..............or similar stuff sold out of office supply joints. Real handy to hold things while painting, masking(will leave a faint mark tho if left a while ) and making into mock ups for patterning etc.SovereignZuul wrote:All those closeup shots really show your great work off Herman, nice, very nice.

Re: "PRODUCTION" TURRET KING TIGER
Think I'm going to call this one Gents.
"This Tiger, including 6 other were picked up by ca . 50 "Panzersoldaten" in late March 45 at Werk Mittelfeld. They marched south of Kassel-attached to the 326 V.G.D. and should support their own troops at Fritzlar. The first fight at Werkel they destroyed about 9 Shermans. They had to give up Werkel, because of heavy american Ari-fire. Later they moved back direction Kassel and this Tiger II was given the order to secure the Autobahn .It had a very strategic position with good views to west and south. It was standing on a crossroad near a bridge over the Autobahn. It would have been an impossible task for the american tanks to destroy it-if not a german civilian had guided the Sherman tanks into a ambush against the tiger from behind. From a near distance the Shermans knocked it out. The commander of this unit-acctually-the 3.Komp/511 was an Oberlt.Hermann Helpup."
Driver -Rudi Kaiser, Killed in action during this engagement.
Alleged Tank Commander Heinz Wilms was apparently in a post war picture in civilian dress, though the pictured mans identity is unconfirmed.
There is is team, my version of Uttsh Heinz Wilms' King Tiger of the 3/511th , March April 1945, in Octopus Ring camoflage.
Thanks for your support

Herman,
Looking for a show off thread now, my friend. You have done a very, very fine job of recreating this last of the Reich's big cats.
regards,
Painless

In keeping with the post war pictures, these two jokers came along for a couple of happy-snaps !

Re: "PRODUCTION" TURRET KING TIGER
I think as this tank is my worst sounding and operating version, I will transplant the T-90 electronics into it.
Surely they will work on a standard RX18 circuit.
At least if it works, my Jagdpanther will be upgraded to 2.4 gen 3 and this one will be the 2.4 Gen 4.
If it wont, I can buy & fit a Gen 3 2.4 for it.
The Jagdtiger with the Taigen recoil might just have to get an Elmod after all, but this will take an age to secure with so much other far more important things going on.
The ole Octopus is now going on the bench for an internal redo, with the odd touch up on the outside.
