HL Truck Mods

Heng Long/WPL are now manufacturing 1/16 scale RC trucks, so it seemed sensible to create a forum area dedicated to the amazing things that members are doing with them. Post your builds, mods, and tips here.

That amazing small and smart unit can do everything what we want, headlights, rear lights, working brake lights, reverse light and a ton of combinations and extra functions like proportional smoke and even can adjust the volume from the transmiter!

It really worths a try and you dont need electronic switches or extra gadjets that take a lot of room from the truck.
Rad this is great news! I've been trying to figure out the smoker and such. These are very nice units for the money

Hi Guys found the rear axle on sale https://www.banggood.com/WPL-B-1-Rear-B ... rehouse=CN
they also have the gearbox ,but cant find the front axle . might save you scraping a full truck for axle.

I've got the headlights sorted out so thank you Gary and Painless.

The lights that Gary sent me are much more realistic IMHO and a bit yellow not the bright white like a new vehicle.

Wow, lots of good news today. I can't wait to see Rad's thread on the das mikro (especially since I somehow ended up with four of them!). I have a programming cable but it's got something weird going on. It has a connector that doesn't fit anything on the das mikro but it also has two sockets that fit the connector included so I'm wondering if I need to attach the connector socket to the mikro, or what? I'm sure once I post photos Rad will be able to tell me what I need to do, but I'll do that in his mikro thread.

The 20 amp esc is a good find, Alwyn, and for guys using ebay in the states I found them here and ordered a couple.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Quality-RC-ESC ... 2749.l2649

This might be enough to power a 1/6 kubel, eh?

And replacement axles are an excellent find for doing a deuce without scrapping another truck. I'm still watching to see how long these plastic parts last, and what kind of failure rates we get once we start adding weight and more powerful motors and pulling trailers with them. I think replacement parts will be a necessity before long.

Can't you file the LEDs down flatter? You could make them lower profile without effecting their use? Just a thought?

It looks quite small and is very cheap, I'll let you know how it does in my truck once it arrives.

This is very good esc. I have 2 running the motors in my custom 1/24 tank and it is really good as the tank really climbs very well. Even in long grass and sand the esc work great

Yes, you can file down the LEDs, but I don't mind it. They kind of remind me od those big tail lights from the 30s, so I'll leave these as they are. This won't be the only truck I do so maybe on a future project I'll try something different.
