HL Truck Mods

Heng Long/WPL are now manufacturing 1/16 scale RC trucks, so it seemed sensible to create a forum area dedicated to the amazing things that members are doing with them. Post your builds, mods, and tips here.

Max-U52 wrote:Carl, this is excellent information. For those of us that want to modify a couple of these into tow vehicles this is exactly the stuff we need to know. I'm really hoping you'll take it to the next step and get some side by side comparisons for towing power. One great way to do that is to just hook up the truck with the new motor to an old shoe or something and see how well it drags it across the floor, with the other shoe attached to a completely stock truck right next to it. Does that make any sense? That's why I like to use shoes, they come in pairs so it makes a good comparison. Also, you can easily increase the weight of your shoe ("tow sled") by just throwing some nuts or bolts in it, since that makes it easy to add the same weight to each shoe. I like to use rolls of pennies. I have lots of them and they make great dead weight. They're also easy to break down into smaller weight if you need to.

You said they have more torque, how well do you think these motors will do in a tow vehicle?

Anyway, keep up the great work and I hope you'll keep testing the limits. 8)
Hi there GaryImageI will post a video of it running with the stock motor and after the swap this weekend. The new motor is a good upgrade last night on the bench as I was holding the truck on the desk the truck was very strong and pulling almost out of my hand as I was testing. It really wants to turn the wheels. Stay tunedImage

Ok so my first impressions of the new motor in the road are very good as far as super torque and power Image

The drawback is torque steer to the right when she is opened up.

The cheap inexpensive esc from Banggood died too Image

So now I'm running a heavy duty esc under the hood.

Stay tuned for more craziness. When I post a video you will see its nuclear powerplant in actionImageImage

Bad news about the esc. I was hoping 10 amps would be enough. I wonder if the new motor is drawing more amperage? Stands to reason, one would think, eh? Damn, I just ordered two more of those escs, too. I'll look around for 20 amp and maybe try one out.

And how did you do that front grill? Looks good.

Yes Will. I had a leftover speed controller from an old King Tiger tank with the single motor so it works just fine. Redoing the rear canopy frame as we speak. Image

What's the esc you're using? I've been looking through the thread and I can't find it.
