Been working on completing the zim on the tank. Will post some pictures soon.

I have a question now. Looking to make this tank a G1 early jagdpanther. In looking at photos, I can see they have different exhaust stacks than the late version (as the HL jagdpanther is). Anyone have any thoughts on what would be the best way to model these? I can use the existing base of the exhaust that's attached to the current tank (first photo), brass for the bits securing the exhaust tubes, but what to make the tubes out of (that will still enable me to use the smoke)?

Pics below for clarity (hopefully) on what I'm asking. Any thoughts would be most appreciated!

Ask anyone you know that might have built a Tamiya Panther G or Jagdpanther, might have the exhausts left over in their spare parts.

I don't know how far you wanted to go with the G1 details, but Just in case you didn't know the G1 and G2 had different air intake grates on the engine deck.

I've got the G1 air intake grates on order from Welshdragon (great service by the way!). Just have to figure out what to do about the exhaust. Going to have a couple minutes tonight, so I'll probably work on the weld lines for much of the tank. Everywhere but the back is completed with the zimmerit. I'll leave the back until I figure out what I'm going to do back there. Will post some photos later.

Did some more detailing this evening.Weld lines along the top of the hull, sides, rear, and a few of the bits and bobs on top of the vehicle. Hope you like the results.

Here are views from the front and top of the tank showing the zimmerit on all the sides. And some of the work done tonight:

Next steps (in no particular order....): add hinge to the loaders door and put it back on; Remove, fill, and sand the bolts from the mantlet cover to make it look like the welded on mantlet of the early JPs; maybe some more welds to some of the other bits on the top of the tank (have to find some good photos of the top of the JPs to see what else was welded); zimmerit along the back of the superstructure; build the stowage box on the back of the superstructure.

So many things to do, so little time...

I do have one question, anyone have any thoughts on the easiest way to remove the tool racks? They appear to be glued generously.... The rod holders and jack block came off easy enough, but not the tool holders. Opinions welcome.

The early JPs had a welded gun housing-


The HL and Tamiya both have the later bolted version

The gun recess were all bolted on, the earliest version used internal studs and bolts.
There were 3 variants of the gun recess with later 2 having external bolts ad the final version with a thicker lip over the glacias.
All 3 versions were used on the G1 variant, as the final version (used on HL and Tamiya) came out in Oct 44.

The air intake grates I was refering to are the 4 rectangular ones on the engine deck, not the 2 round fan armor castings.
The G1 used 2 different size gratings, G2 had all the same size (grate pattern differs between the models also).
