i use a graupner smoke unit in boats and its wired into the moter so its proportional to the motors speed the more speed then the more current and the unit creates more smoke, however as standard they have to remain upright or the fluid will leak out but im sure it could be adapted

Ok guys here is the information,Dan has agreed to allow me to post it,and it is the list of parts and the correct resistors. I will be making these units soon, the smaller version,as this occurs I will update the parts as we purchase them so you guys can build your own. Also Phil@rctankwars will be selling these again, and we are working together to bring this product back to the market. He also offer a EL-MOD comparable version.

Thanks for sharing that Info with us Saxondog, I would definitely buy one of those from you If you go into production
Anyway... I've been really busy working on my tank I have also been getting over the cold from hell  So I haven't really been active on the forums.

Here's currently where I am with my smoker.

I do now have a proportional smoke circuit as a matter of sorts, I modded the Heng Long proportional smoke board to my own needs and it works. Problem is....no fan rotation when the tank is idle. I think this is due to lack of voltage to the fan when there is no movement. I can't seem to get 3volts to the fan at idle, but I get full voltage to the fan when I put the power on.
It does have a interesting side effect of belching out a nice plume of fog when It moves forwards  I'm still perfecting the amount of air holes to put onto the box, and their size, too little and there's not enough pressure, too much at the fog is too thin  I'll post some photos/videos when Its ready

Saxondog
I'm very interested in the use of Glycol as the the smoking fluid as I have been trying to use it without success, using a modified HL smoker with a fan, I used the 15% solution as recommended for disco fogging units but it just seemed to evaporate without producing smoke, disco units pump the fluid to atomise it so I did not think it would work in our type of evaporative smokers.
Can you tell me what the fluid make up is these units work with so I can try again.

Not wanting to cut " Saxondog" ; but if you're using a boosted H.L. smoker with a fan ; I would suggest using " liquid paraffin" based liquids , such as baby oil or mineral oil ....
It is producing more smoke per Watt than other fog juice ; and most importantly will lubricate the rubber tip of the piston ...
Alcohol based fluid will dry the rubber in the long run and "motor oil" will seized the piston after a few hours ...( I tried it @) @) @) ) ...
I am personally using baby oil in the boosted H.L. smokers I have in my tanks ....

I forgot to mention that a better lubrication of the piston is reducing the load on the pumping system and thus reducing the noise level ...
Here's what I have right now in my Pershing....http://youtu.be/YF2FaNARrf8

Thanks strmnd54, I'm coming to the same conclusion, commercial fogging solutions (and the home made derivatives) do not work in our type of smokers as they are not oil based solutions, I have also heard of the use of concrete shuttering release oil and barbecue lighting fluid mixed 50/50 as a smoking fluid by the model train enthusiasts but not tried that yet.

Does it have to be a certain type of mineral oil? what about 3-in-1 oil? and what kind of baby oil? glycol based or el cheapo stuff from the corner shop. I need to know these things as I'm about ready to try a dash of Frylite or crisp-and-dry right about now :haha:
