15ohms,.25watt ceramic wire wound resistors are the type and value in the supper smokers, fog fluid is the best for a nice smoke that is heavy, tends to stay together and sink behind the tank,Dan did alot of work developing the units. Also the matt for fluid retention is Kevlar.

This you guys may of seen,it's my Jagdpanther just sitting still,

That looks pretty impressive saxondog :O trouble is this damn tank has hit me in the pocket hard, so I really don't want to spend any more money on it at the moment. The missus is going mad as it is. But just out of curiosity I live in the UK so how much would it cost me to acquire one of those units?

Just checked and RC TANKWARS has pulled them from the site,I know the guy that makes these,he sent 10 to a vender in the UK,that person refused the shippment because of the VAT,the smokers never were returned so he has had issues with the UK postal system.

I know the design was last sold at half the size of the original units,I have three and Dietrich has one or two,he built one for my 1/200 scale Ariizona,I tested it,and it really poors out the smoke. The unit in the picture is,maybe 1.5 years ago, still works, their proportional, the picture is at idle. here is a picture of the unit as sold, for 50.00us or 32.50 uk.

OK another member has asked,so I will contact Dan,the designer and maker of these,he may of just got tired of the hassle,if he is willing to do a one time deal for a few, then i will get the cost,I will send them over as I know Dan will not,but all I ask is the deal cost me nothing, and I want nothing for doing this, just as long as I am not liable for any cost.

I have a promise to the wife,no more Hobby budget until I finish all the tanks, ships and kits I have now,so I cannot help other than as a shipper. The smokers are really nice,as you can see they plug into the smoker socket and one set of wires to one motor,.It cannot hurt to ask him?

VAT in the uk is currently at 20% :'( Looks like I'm gonna have to bite the bullet and try and construct one. Even if I try and import on from the states, I will get stung by import tax.
Anyway, If I don't do it myself, I won't learn anything about it B|

Blake the VAT, inport tax, customs charge is a real killer for us in th UK to imort stuff from America or Canada.

Basically we pay tax on product and shipping cost combined then the customs pass to our postal service to reclaim the tax duty then the postal services adds they share for recovering cost from the us. I stopped looking into it as my wallet was crying.

Se7eN,

I would highly recommend building your own it isn't difficult and all the parts is probably less than buying a new HL smoker.

Back to your original query about voltage. Basically it is resistor and will tolerate any voltage from a battery, the main thing is the current through it which will create heat.

To work out current take supply voltage divide by resistor. i.e 7.2v/15 = 0.48Amps (standard smoker), 9.6v/15 = 0.72Amps (9.6v battery) or your 9v/10 = 0.9Amps. This will generate a lot of heat and could overheat the resistor if just a cheap carbon (or what ever material) version, it also drain battery quicker.

Hope that helps, but always here if you have more questions.

Now for a different topic :haha: I assume you live in the UK If so where the hell to you get Glycol from? I want to mix up a 9:1 ratio distilled water mix for some super thick smoke.
The only site I have found is Mistralni.co.uk, nice price but there postage is horrendous
I also found this on ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ws/eBayISAPI. ... TQ:GB:1123
Does it look any good to you?

I use the HL stuff, you be surprised how much smoke you get off as little as a few drops. Easy to get hold of and fine to use indoors.

Here’s a video I did where I put the resistor on one of my Tiger exhausts and a few drops of HL smoke oil.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8-IaB9Rk ... AAAAAAADAA

As for Glycol, when I was reading into alternative smoke solutions I read (if I remember correctly) 50/50 Vegetable glycol/alcohol and the vegetable glycol is available from the chemist for about £4 a bottle. But the guy who was doing all this work did comment that it was working out more expensive than the HL stuff.
